Amazon Teams Up With Plan B for Epic Sci-Fi Series Adaptation of ‘Consider Phlebas’

As a passionate cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that I am personally involved in the development of a television series based on Iain M. Banks’ seminal science fiction novel, “Consider Phlebas.” This book belongs to his captivating “Culture” series, where we delve into a society that has transcended scarcity and thrives among the stars.

The narrative unfolds as we delve into the tale of two key figures embroiled in an interstellar conflict: Horza, a freelance soldier, and Balveda, an operative from a utopian civilization known as the Culture. Together, they pursue a self-aware artificial intelligence whose actions could tip the scales for the entire cosmos.

Charles Yu, renowned for the novel “Interior Chinatown”, will serve as both writer and executive producer for the upcoming series. He’ll collaborate with Chloé Zhao, another executive producer through her company Books of Shadows. Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner from Plan B Entertainment, Adele Banks are also part of the team as executive producers.

Six years ago, I found myself enthralled as Amazon began crafting this show, much like they were diving deep into the vast realms of sci-fi with productions such as “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Expanse”. Though an earlier incarnation never saw the light of day, the current version is now picking up steam.

As a cinephile, I’ve got some impressive credits under my belt.
