Director Brett Ratner, known for helming the successful “Rush Hour” franchise, is making a return to Hollywood following a lengthy absence from the industry. Despite directing the first three “Rush Hour” movies, plans for a fourth film have faced obstacles in moving forward.
1) Movie studios such as Paramount and Sony have not been eager to collaborate with Brett Ratner, who was absent from the Hollywood scene since 2017 due to numerous accusations of inappropriate behavior that surfaced during the peak of the #MeToo movement.
The accusations against him prompted his agency to end their relationship with him right away. Ratner has refuted all claims, and no legal actions were taken against him. Surprisingly, in spite of his contentious past, Amazon has backed Ratter for a new venture – a documentary about Melania Trump, which is co-produced by the former First Lady herself, according to Variety.
As a cinema aficionado, I’m thrilled about an upcoming movie that offers a unique, backstage peek into the life of Melania, set to hit theaters in 2025.
According to Ratner’s friends, they informed Variety that he viewed directing a documentary as his pathway for re-entering the entertainment industry. Shockingly, Amazon decided to fund the project during filming, which is unusual. This venture marks one of the rare major projects Ratner has been involved in over the past few years.
In 2021, Ratner attempted to helm a biopic about the R&B duo Milli Vanilli, but faced significant pushback, including firm resistance from Time’s Up, causing him to withdraw from the project. His link to Melania could potentially be traced back to one of his final films, “Tower Heist“, as it included Trump Tower as a prominent location.
