As a long-time fan who has followed the epic saga of Middle Earth since the release of the original trilogy, I can confidently say that the fear of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” not being renewed for a third season was a worry that weighed heavily on my heart. Thankfully, recent reports suggest that the series is doing much better than initially suggested and has attracted millions of viewers worldwide.
Regardless of the criticism from some fans, “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” has garnered popularity on Amazon. The second season, set to air on August 29, 2024, will kick off with three episodes. It’s intriguing to see how the story unfolds, given the latest updates shared by the showrunners, as we have previously reported.
Although earlier reports suggested a decrease in viewership for the series, which pleased some fans, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news for devoted “The Lord of the Rings” enthusiasts. Amazon has verified that the audience for the second season of the show is on an upward trend!
Following some troubling headlines about potential non-renewal of the series due to decreased viewership, it’s important to clarify: Despite these concerns, the production company has assured us that the show is actually thriving, offering optimism for fans eagerly anticipating a third season.
According to the previous report we shared, only some data from Samba TV indicated that approximately 902 thousand homes watched the debut of Season 2 of “The Rings of Power,” which represents a substantial decline when compared to the initial season.
The new season of Rings of Power is out with 902k US households tuning in over the last five days to watch the first ep.

Despite causing concern among many fans, it appears that the situation might not be as dire as some may suggest, and the figures released support this. Notably, these latest figures have been sourced directly from Amazon, making them the authentic numbers for the ongoing season.
As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news about “The Rings of Power” Season 2! According to an internal update from Jennifer Salke, our beloved Head of Amazon MGM Studios, the second season has surpassed initial expectations. In just 11 days, it managed to attract a staggering 40 million viewers, which averages to approximately 3.6 million daily viewers – a figure far higher than earlier predictions by Samba.
It’s noteworthy that many viewers of our “Rings of Power” series are based outside the U.S., demonstrating the show’s appeal to international audiences and the expanding customer base of Amazon Prime Video globally.

Additionally, Salke has verified that The Rings of Power is currently the most-watched season on Prime Video worldwide and ranks among the Top 5 TV seasons in terms of overall viewership over the past 11 days. This undoubtedly is wonderful news. Given this success, it appears that The Rings of Power Season 2 is following a similar trajectory to House of the Dragon Season 2; you may recall that the latter had a relatively slow beginning (in comparison to its first season), but gathered momentum and turned into a smash hit.
It’s common for a show to experience a drop in viewers from one season to another, particularly if significant time elapses between the seasons. However, it seems that The Rings of Power Season 2 is poised for success!
