As a total film buff, I’ve put together a complete guide to everything new landing on the platform! I’m really excited to highlight all the important details – the plots, the casts, and who’s behind the scenes creatively. Starting late September and running through early November, I want to help you discover some real gems and get your watchlist ready for some seriously binge-worthy nights!

‘Bloody Axe Wound’ (2024)

I’m really excited about ‘Bloody Axe Wound’, the new horror-comedy written and directed by Matthew John Lawrence! It’s about a teenage girl, Abbie Bladecut, played by Sari Arambulo, who unexpectedly inherits her dad’s… let’s just say, *unique* business – he ran a video store specializing in snuff films. It’s wild! She’s trying to figure out this crazy legacy while also dealing with all the normal awkwardness of having a first crush – Molly Brown plays that role, and things don’t exactly go as planned for her character. From what I’ve heard, the movie is a brilliant mix of coming-of-age moments and slasher movie fun, and the scenes with the customers are supposed to be hilariously gory. I can’t wait to see how it all plays out!

This independent film debuts on Hulu on Tuesday, September 30th, starring Billy Burke as the overprotective father, Roger Bladecut, with Jeffrey Dean Morgan appearing in a supporting part. Shot in just 18 days near Saugerties, New York, the movie takes inspiration from Lawrence’s 2020 film Uncle Peckerhead, blending it with classic rebellious teen horror themes for a unique genre mix.

‘Vampires Suck’ (2010)

‘Vampires Suck’ is a comedy film directed by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer. It playfully imitates popular teen vampire movies, using exaggerated and silly humor. Jenn Proske stars as Becca, a teenager dealing with both werewolves and vampires, and Matt Lanter plays a character similar to the mysterious Edward from the ‘Twilight’ series. The movie’s script makes fun of famous people and trends with over-the-top situations and appearances by celebrities.

This comedy arrives on Hulu on Wednesday, October 1st, starring Ken Jeong as an unusual vampire hunter and Arielle Kebbel as his romantic competitor. Made with a relatively small budget, the film uses physical comedy and satire, playfully referencing well-known themes for fast-paced humor. Its fun and silly approach to the idea of being obsessed with the supernatural should appeal to those who enjoy funny, fake documentaries.

‘The Twilight Saga: New Moon’ (2009)

‘The Twilight Saga: New Moon’ is directed by Chris Weitz, and tells the story of Bella Swan dealing with a broken heart after Edward leaves. She finds comfort in her growing friendship with werewolf Jacob. Kristen Stewart returns as Bella, Robert Pattinson as Edward, and Taylor Lautner delivers a standout performance as Jacob Black. The film’s screenplay, written by Melissa Rosenberg, is based on the novel by Stephenie Meyer, and explores the difficult topics of loss and the importance of loyalty.

Beginning Wednesday, October 1, on Hulu, the movie features beautiful scenery from Italy and a captivating musical score composed by Alexandre Desplat. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 is further enhanced by a chilling performance from Dakota Fanning, who plays a member of the Volturi. Filmed in both Washington and Italy, the film builds upon the existing story with thrilling action and heartfelt moments.

‘Master Z: Ip Man Legacy’ (2018)

‘Master Z: Ip Man Legacy’, directed by Wilson Yip, follows Cheung Tin-chi’s transformation from a fighter who has lost a battle to a skilled Wing Chun master. The story is set in Hong Kong during the 1960s. Max Zhang plays the role of Cheung, with Michelle Yeoh portraying a powerful triad boss, and Tony Jaa as his martial arts rival. The screenplay, written by Lilian Li, expands upon the world established in the ‘Ip Man’ films, featuring intense and realistic street fights.

I’m so excited for this new action drama! It’s arriving on Hulu on Wednesday, October 1st, and from what I’ve seen, the action is going to be incredible. The legendary Yuen Woo-ping did the choreography, so expect really smooth and impactful – even bone-crunching – fight scenes. Dave Bautista is playing a drug lord’s right-hand man, and I know he’ll bring a lot of intensity to the cast. What really draws me in, though, is that it was filmed on location in Hong Kong, paying respect to classic kung fu while also telling a story about finding redemption and the importance of family bonds. I can’t wait to watch it!

‘I Spy’ (2002)

I Spy, a funny spy adventure, is directed by Betty Thomas. It features NBA player Kelly Robinson and agent Alex Scott working together to get back a stolen airplane. Eddie Murphy plays the showy Kelly, Owen Wilson is Alex, who loves gadgets, and Famke Janssen plays the attractive villain. The screenplay, written by Kevin Williamson, takes things a step further by adding clever, self-aware commentary about making a sequel.

Available to stream on Hulu starting Wednesday, October 1, this horror film includes a striking early performance by Jada Pinkett Smith and stars Sarah Michelle Gellar as a member of a sorority. Shot on location in Georgia, the movie mixes frightening moments with comedy thanks to suspenseful pursuits and misleading clues. The strong cast helps develop the characters even as things get violent.

‘Guess Who’ (2005)

‘Guess Who’ is a romantic comedy directed by Kevin Rodney Sullivan. It’s a fresh take on the classic film ‘Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner’, with a twist: Bernie Mac plays the very protective father who is meeting his daughter’s white fiancé. Ashton Kutcher stars as the fiancé, Zoë Saldaña as the daughter, and Mac delivers a wonderfully funny performance as the father. The screenplay, written by Kevin Cecil and David Stern, really highlights the differences in their cultures, creating plenty of comedic moments.

The movie premieres on Hulu on Wednesday, October 1st, and features Kellee Stewart as the clever sister and RonReaco Lee as her former partner. Filmed in New York City, the story mixes uncomfortable family gatherings with genuinely touching scenes. The filmmakers emphasize relationships through scenes that use improvisation, offering a heartwarming take on interracial romance. It’s a story about family and connection.

Vin Diesel plays the hardened Kaulder, with Rose Leslie as his new trainee, and Elijah Wood as a manipulative priest. The script, written by Cory Goodman, blends elements of fantasy mythology with the harsh realities of city life.

I’m really excited about this film, which drops on Hulu starting October 1st! It stars Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as the villain, Belial, and I’ve heard great things. Apparently, they filmed it in Pittsburgh, cleverly using the city to stand in for NYC. What I’m *most* intrigued by is that they went with practical effects – real magic and sword fighting! It sounds like the story pulls from old folklore, mixing a classic medieval quest vibe with issues that feel very relevant today.

‘Saw V’ (2008)

‘Saw V’ is directed by David Hackl and follows FBI agent Strahm as he hunts for the person who has taken over from Jigsaw. ‘Last Seen Alive’ (2022)

I just watched ‘Last Seen Alive’, and it was a really intense thriller! It’s directed by Brian Goodman and follows a dad who’s desperately trying to find his wife after she disappears from a Georgia gas station. He really goes against the grain, arguing with both the local people and the police in his search. Gerard Butler is fantastic as Will, the dad, and Jaimie Alexander plays his wife, Lisa. Russell Hornsby does a great job as the sheriff too. I also learned that Goodman co-wrote the script, which really adds to the frantic feeling of the whole movie. It’s a wild ride as he searches for her!
