Aliens, Chaos, Comedy: ‘The Empire’ Reboots Space Opera!

In simple terms, “The Empire” (translated as “L’Empire” in French) is a 2024 sci-fi comedy-drama that Bruno Dumont wrote and directed. This film satirizes the “Star Wars” series and big Hollywood blockbusters, with the action taking place in Dumont’s native region of northern France.

At the 74th Berlin International Film Festival on February 18, 2024, a multinational film production featuring France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, and Portugal was first screened, bagging the Silver Bear Jury Prize. The movie debuted in French cinemas on February 21, 2024.

In ‘The Empire’, Lyna Khoudri plays Line, Anamaria Vartolomei takes on the role of Jane, while Camille Cottin portrays The Queen. Fabrice Luchini is cast as the malevolent character Belzébuth. Additionally, Brandon Vlieghe, Julien Manier, Bernard Pruvost, and Philippe Jore are part of the supporting cast.
