Alien: Romulus Brings Back THIS Character From Original Film; Here’s What We Know

As a lifestyle expert with a rich background in cinema and science fiction, I must admit that my anticipation for Alien: Romulus was palpable. Having witnessed the evolution of the Alien franchise since its inception in 1979, I have developed a deep affection for these films and the intricate web they weave across space and time.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’ve been eagerly awaiting the big-screen release of the first installment in the Alien franchise’s latest chapter: Alien: Romulus. Directed by the talented Fede Alvarez, this thrilling tale follows a youthful crew tasked with repairing a space station, unbeknownst to them that they’d be crossing paths with the lethal Xenomorph.

If you’re a fan of sci-fi thrillers, particularly those involving space and exploration, you might notice traces of Ridley Scott’s Alien woven throughout these films. The Alien series, debuting in 1979, has spawned numerous sequels and spin-offs. However, Alien: Romulus is the latest installment in the main timeline after a gap of seven years. Despite being a new addition, it seems to resonate most strongly with Ridley’s original movie, according to fans.

2024’s iteration shares a more profound link to the initial film due to its use of CGI to resurrect late actor Ian Holm, who portrays a different character this time around. In the original Alien, he was Ash, the android, whereas in Romulus, he assumes the role of Rook.

Although these characters share some common traits, such as having malevolent plans and causing turmoil, Rook stands out in the movie with a significant role. In the film, Rook, similar to Ash from the original Alien, has lost half of its body due to an earlier Xenomorph attack on the Romulus space station. Nevertheless, Rain and Andy managed to restore his power.

I was utterly disheartened when I unearthed that Rook had his own agenda, one that seemed geared towards furthering Weylan Utani’s ambitions. In the movie, what followed was a recovery of the Nostromo’s debris and its transfer to Romulus. They dabbled with the Xenomorph that had been unleashed on Nostromo, attempting to reverse-engineer it.

As an ardent admirer, let me recount a chain of occurrences that unfolded in the creation of Alien: Romulus, where they decided to resurrect the Prometheus strain from the iconic movie. However, this decision stirred quite a commotion among fans, who felt that using Ian Holm’s likeness in the film was unwarranted and disrespectful. Even within the context of Alien: Romulus, his inclusion seemed superfluous. Though it might have maintained continuity with the initial film, multiple actors have portrayed synthetics throughout the franchise already.

As a devoted fan, I’d like to share that Fede Alvarez’s film, titled “Romulus,” fits snugly within the timeline between the original “Alien” (1979) and its sequel, “Aliens” (1986). The stellar cast includes Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu. “Alien: Romulus,” the seventh addition to this captivating franchise, graced the big screen on August 23, 2024.
