Good news for fans left wondering about the ending of Alien: Earth! FX has renewed the series for a second season, as reported by Variety. Creator Noah Hawley has also agreed to a deal with the network to continue working with them. The new season is planned to film in London around 2026, following the first season which was primarily shot in Thailand. Hawley has a strong relationship with FX, previously creating the acclaimed series Fargo and the X-Men spin-off Legion for the network.
Now that the show is moving to London, fans are wondering if the Neverland Facility will be left behind in season two. The first season ended with Wendy (Sydney Chandler), a synthetic hybrid, and her group, the “Lost Boys,” seizing control of the research facility and planning to take charge. With a Xenomorph under their control, they certainly have the means to do so. It’s unclear what their rule actually entails, considering Ridley Scott’s original Alien is set just two years after Alien: Earth. There’s no sign that synthetic hybrids are in charge of the world. We’ll have to wait and see what happens next.
How many seasons will Alien: Earth have? Noah Hawley has mentioned a five-season plan, but realistically, three seasons is more likely. Most streaming shows with large budgets don’t last beyond three seasons. As long as Hawley can complete his planned storyline, fans will be satisfied. Hopefully, Disney will support his vision as they did with Tony Gilroy and Andor. FX hasn’t announced a release date for season two yet, but it’s unlikely to arrive before 2027.
