The television series titled “Alien: Earth,” airing on FX starting August 12, aims to resurrect the chilling horror elements of the iconic sci-fi franchise. Crafted by Noah Hawley, the creator of “Fargo,” this show is set decades before Ridley Scott’s initial Alien movie. It guarantees a focus on practical effects, an atmosphere of corporate distrust, and a revisit to the raw terror that characterized the original series.
Before its debut, FX showcased Alien: Earth at San Diego Comic-Con in a big way, featuring a full-scale crash scene, an interactive tour, and a shocking early screening of the first episode.
Here’s everything you need to know.

How To Watch: The Series Premieres August 12 on FX and Hulu
The extraterrestrial series “Earth: Alien” makes its premiere on August 12, available only in the U.S. on both FX and Hulu, and globally on Disney+. In total, there will be eight episodes, with a fresh episode being released each week.
In my timeline, I find myself in the year 2120, barely skimming the surface of two decades that precede the intriguing storyline of Prometheus, and merely a scant two years prior to the chilling events depicted in Alien, which unfolded in 1979.
Comic-Con Featured a Full Crash Site Experience
In 2025 at the San Diego Comic-Con, FX turned part of the grassy area near the Hilton into an interactive “Alien” experience known as “The Damaged Site.
The walkthrough featured:
- A crashed spaceship styled after the USCSS Maginot (the ship from the show)
- Military containers, alien egg props, and Weyland-Yutani branding
- Live actors playing shaken-up survivors and corporation staff
During the night, the location apparently transformed into a “high alert” zone of fear, featuring dramatic lighting and performers wearing alien masks.
Additionally, drawing eyes was the colossal mural adorning the side of the Hilton Bayfront hotel, depicting a xenomorph’s skull with our planet, Earth, nestled within its gaping jaw, and bearing the “8.12 FX Hulu” release imprint.
The Story: Horror, Hybrids, and Corporate Greed
Noah Hawley’s “Alien: Earth” revolves around a wrecked mining spaceship and an enigmatic synthetic-human blend called Wendy. The series delves into the intriguing storyline involving this character.
- Themes of exploitation, synthetic identity, and tech addiction
- Corporate corruption by the Weyland-Yutani-like company Prodigy Corporation
- A younger Earth not yet aware of the xenomorph threat
As stated by Hawley, the aim is to base the series around themes of body horror, ethical quandaries, and survival, rather than focusing on alien conflicts.
Cast and Creators
- Sydney Chandler plays the lead (Wendy), a synthetic hybrid on the run
- Timothy Olyphant plays a synthetic-hunting military officer
- Created by Noah Hawley (Fargo, Legion), with Ridley Scott involved as an executive producer
- David W. Zucker, Joseph Iberti, Dana Gonzales and Clayton Krueger also executive produce
Ridley Scott allegedly provided just one piece of feedback on Hawley’s initial spaceship designs following his review, according to reports.
“Wow. F—k me,” reacted Scott, which the team took as a full greenlight.
In addition to the main actors, we have Samuel Blenkin, Babou Ceesay, Adrian Edmondson, David Rysdahl, Essie Davis, Lily Newmark, Erana James, Adarsh Gourav, Jonathan Ajayi, Kit Young, Diêm Camille, Moe Bar-El, and Sandra Yi Sencindiver joining the production.
Could Alien: Earth Lead to More?
The series titled “Alien: Earth” is being developed as an ongoing saga rather than a standalone miniseries. If it resonates with the audience, there could be additional seasons or closer connections to the “Alien: Romulus” timeline and a possible franchise revamp in the future. Perhaps even the highly anticipated “Aliens vs Predator” storyline might emerge.
Alien Might Finally Be Back
Following numerous attempts, FX and Noah Hawley may have found the key to the Alien puzzle: create an atmosphere of suspense, maintain realism, and concentrate on individuals caught within a system that’s impossible to evade.
If you’re a devotee of movies such as “Alien (1979)”, “Aliens”, or even “Prometheus”, it seems that “Alien: Earth” could potentially rekindle the terror in the series.
Official synopsis:
Here is the official description of the series:
Fear takes new forms.
As I, a dedicated movie enthusiast, find myself immersed in the gripping tale of FX’s “Alien: Earth”, I can’t help but recall my own adventure when the enigmatic deep space research vessel USCSS Maginot plummets back to our home planet. In that moment, I found myself, along with a motley crew of tactical soldiers and none other than “Wendy” (Sydney Chandler), standing on the precipice of an ominous truth – Earth’s deadliest adversary had been unveiled, forcing us to confront our planet’s most formidable threat.
In the year 2120, Earth is ruled by five major corporations: Prodigy, Weyland-Yutani, Lynch, Dynamic, and Threshold. This is known as the Corporate Age. During this time, both cyborgs (individuals with a blend of organic and mechanical components) and synthetics (intelligent humanoid robots) coexist with humans. However, the game changes when the brilliant Founder and CEO of Prodigy Corporation unveils a groundbreaking technological development: hybrids (robots imbued with human consciousness). The first prototype of this hybrid technology is named “Wendy,” heralding a new phase in the pursuit of immortality. Tragedy strikes when Weyland-Yutani’s spacecraft crashes into Prodigy City, leaving “Wendy” and other hybrids to face terrifying alien life forms beyond anyone’s wildest nightmares.
