Alicia Silverstone will once more take on her iconic role in a new Clueless series, which is being developed by Peacock. The news has sent fans of the beloved ’90s show into a wave of nostalgia.
The news was shared through Variety, and Silverstone herself announced it on Instagram by posting, “Completely excited… in the best way possible,” along with a GIF and scenes from the movie. This new venture will be a continuation of the 1995 film, which drew inspiration from Jane Austen’s Emma and left a lasting impact on ’90s teen culture.
Though specific storyline details are yet to be revealed, the creative duo behind “Gossip Girl”, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, are set to write the new project. Joining them is Jordan Weiss. Amy Heckerling, who was involved in the original film as a writer and director, comes back as an executive producer, alongside Shannen Doherty and producer Robert Lawrence.
The upcoming series we’re discussing here is distinct from the previously planned reboot in 2020, which was also being developed by Peacock and centered around Cher’s friend Dionne. However, that project didn’t materialize and notably lacked the character of Cher.
Originally, Clueless featured Alicia Silverstone, Stacey Dash, Brittany Murphy, and Paul Rudd. The film’s success paved the way for a TV series from 1996 to 1999, starring Rachel Blanchard as Cher.
