It’s been 25 years since Gilmore Girls first aired on October 5, 2000, and Alexis Bledel, who became known for her role as Rory Gilmore, has steadily built a thriving career while maintaining a private life. The actress, originally from Texas, has largely avoided the spotlight and tabloid attention.
Alexis Bledel was only 18 years old when she began playing Rory, a teenage girl who loves to read and is figuring out life with her mother (played by Lauren Graham). While she’d already acted – including a small role in Wes Anderson’s Rushmore at 17, and through theater and commercials – she’s always been known for being private and dedicated to her craft.
Following the conclusion of Gilmore Girls in 2007, Alexis Bledel carefully chose her next acting projects. Alexis Bledel’s career saw significant success with her role as Emily Malek in The Handmaid’s Tale. She won an Emmy Award for her performance in 2017 and was nominated several other times. In 2022, she decided to leave the show, explaining that playing such a emotionally challenging character had become difficult.
Although she’s taken a step back from leading roles, Alexis Bledel has remained active in the entertainment world. She’s continued to support her fellow actors and lent her voice to the 50th anniversary audiobook of Tuck Everlasting. She also finished filming two movies, Ponderosa and Joy Will Prevail, which are currently being edited. In 2024, she made a public appearance at an Oscars viewing party benefiting the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
Alexis Bledel, now 44, has grown from the quiet teenager she played on Gilmore Girls into a well-respected actress.
