A well-known comic book artist, Alex Ross, stirred up debate when he shared and subsequently removed a depiction of Superman from his verified account, following the unfortunate event of Charlie Kirk‘s assassination.

The Deleted Post

Less than twenty-four hours following Kirk’s tragic shooting while addressing Utah Valley University, Ross posted artwork depicting Superman with bullets ricocheting off his chest. This timing raised criticism, as people perceived it as insensitive and interpreted it as mockery of the unfortunate event.

It’s noteworthy that the artwork shows a bullet appearing to rebound from the left side of Superman’s neck – a location corresponding to where Charlie Kirk was reportedly wounded.

The image was later deleted without explanation; however, users on X took screenshots.

Not the First Time

On previous occasions, Ross’s X account has faced criticism over contentious political posts. Earlier instances involved sharing artworks featuring Joe Biden and George W. Bush, which were similarly deemed questionable by critics.

Ross is frequently recognized as an exceptional comic book artist, renowned for his lifelike, painted style displayed in works like “Kingdom Come,” “Marvels,” and multiple cover artworks for DC Comics.

To date, neither Ross nor anyone acting on his behalf has made a public comment regarding the removed Superman post.

31-year-old Charlie Kirk met his tragic end on Wednesday, during a public speech to thousands of students in Orem, Utah. A solitary bullet, shot from a rooftop, struck him fatally in the neck.

President Donald Trump officially acknowledged his own demise and subsequently declared that Kirk will be bestowed with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. A 22-year-old individual, Tyler Robinson, has been taken into police custody as a suspect.
