Alan Ritchson is gaining recognition for his performance in the action comedy Playdate, despite mixed reviews from critics. The movie, directed by Luke Greenfield and written by Neil Goldman, also features Kevin James, Sarah Chalke, Alan Tudyk, and Isla Fisher, among others.
The movie centers around Brian, an accountant who’s just lost his job and is trying to connect with his stepson, Lucas. He sets up a playdate with Jeff, a self-assured stay-at-home dad, hoping the boys will bond. But the weekend takes an unexpected turn when a group of mercenaries starts pursuing them, turning the outing into a chaotic and funny adventure.

The movie Playdate, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video on November 12th, quickly rose to become the most-watched film in the United States and stayed there for a while. However, professional critics didn’t like it very much. Rotten Tomatoes showed that only 18% of critics gave it a positive review, and Metacritic gave it a score of 20 out of 100, signaling generally negative feedback.
Despite criticism of the show, many fans and reviewers loved Kaley Ritchson’s performance. M.N. Miller from FandomWire described him as stealing every scene with a surprisingly charming and energetic presence, comparing him to a lovable, goofy golden retriever in a superhero role. Miller highlighted Ritchson as sweet, impulsive, and incredibly likable.
The movie stars Kevin James as Brian, a recently laid-off dad who’s trying to manage things at home while his wife, Emily (Sarah Chalke), picks up extra hours at the hospital. At the same time, Jeff (Alan Ritchson) quickly connects with Lucas’ son, CJ (Banks Pierce), leading to plenty of funny and exciting moments.
