Sources say Alan Ritchson is in discussions to appear in James Gunn’s new DC Universe. He’s being considered for a role that would be a more complex and flawed character, a departure from the typically heroic figures seen in DC films.
I was reading ScreenRant the other day, and Kaley Ritchson – he’s starring in this new movie called Playdate – talked about potentially joining the DC Universe. They asked him if he’d rather play the good guy or the bad guy, and he hinted he’s in talks to play someone a bit… darker and more complicated. Sounds interesting!
He explained that he’s been discussing with producers his desire to play a more flawed and complex character. He described the type of personality he envisioned – someone less traditional and ‘clean-cut’ – and how that character would impact the story. He believes audiences are ready for a protagonist like that, and that’s what he’s hoping to bring to the role.
Many fans have consistently hoped to see Ritchson play Batman in the DC Universe, and he’s publicly stated his desire for the role on several occasions.
In an August interview with Variety, he admitted that although he’s talked with James Gunn about playing Batman, he doesn’t anticipate actually getting the part.
Ritchson confirmed James Gunn is a fan of his work, and he feels the same way about Gunn. While they’ve discussed the possibility of him playing Batman, Ritchson doesn’t believe that will happen. However, he is hopeful about working on other projects with DC in the future, and wants to keep that possibility open.
We don’t know yet which character Ritchson will portray, and he might first appear in a TV series before potentially joining the DC movies. Fans are eager to find out how this more complex role will connect with James Gunn’s plans for the DC Universe.
