Alan Cumming expresses his delight at returning to the Marvel Cinematic universe! The cast for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday was revealed during a live stream, and Alan Cumming is among them, playing Nightcrawler. To share his excitement about this fantastic news, he turned to social media.

2003 saw me stepping into the iconic comic book role in X2: X-Men United. Now, over two decades later, I’m thrilled to return to that world and join forces once more with my esteemed co-stars – Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Rebecca Romijn, and James Marsden. It feels surreal to be a part of this reunion!
In the 2003 movie, Stewart assumed the role of Professor X (also known as Charles Xavier), whereas McKellen brought Magneto to life on screen. Meanwhile, Romijn and Marsden portrayed Mystique and Cyclops, respectively.
Stewart acted as Professor X in the 2003 film, while McKellen played Magneto; Romijn and Marsden took on the roles of Mystique and Cyclops.
2024 found me reminiscing about my role as Nighcrawler during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “I believe the X-Men movie I’m a part of is the most overtly gay production I’ve ever been involved in, and that’s coming from me,” I shared with them, proudly embracing the unique narrative we brought to life.
In an interesting twist, the actor disclosed that this mainstream superhero project featured both a director and numerous actors identifying as part of the LGBTQ+ community, proving that the world within comic books can be remarkably diverse. Cumming further commented, suggesting that these films effectively convey and normalize queer themes to their audience.
As an ardent fan, I can’t help but marvel at the artistic portrayal of our shared space, making it more approachable and less daunting in concept. Drawing parallels between superheroes and our vibrant queer community, he elucidated that we both harbor unique abilities or extraordinary gifts which we often conceal to blend seamlessly into the world at large.
Speaking in this context, I can relate, as a devoted supporter, to what’s being discussed about queer experiences. In an exciting turn of events, the renowned Robert Downey Jr., who has won an Oscar, is coming back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) following his role as Iron Man. This time, he will embody the antagonist, Doctor Doom, in the upcoming Avengers movie.
Avengers: Doomsday will hit the theaters on May 1, 2026.
