As a lifestyle expert, I am always intrigued by the lives of the greats, and Al Pacino is undeniably one of them. His upcoming autobiography, Sonny Boy: A Memoir, promises to be a riveting read, offering an intimate glimpse into his life, particularly his relationship with his mother.
Everyone recognizes Al Pacino as one of the most esteemed actors globally. This week, a snippet from his eagerly awaited autobiography, titled “Sonny Boy: A Memoir,” was published in The New Yorker, according to The Mirror. This sneak peek offered his fans insights into his personal relationship with his mother.
As per the article, Pacino shared that following his parents’ divorce when he was just two years old, he was brought up primarily by his mother, Rose, and his grandparents in The Bronx. He acknowledged that, in a sense, his mother played an indirect yet significant role in his successful career by taking him to the movies.
In addition, he contemplated on the attempted suicide of his mother and her death from a drug overdose in 1962, which is described in his autobiography. As he recounted this heartbreaking event, he mentioned that he didn’t realize Rose had problems until he was six years old, while preparing to go out and play one day.
The actor stated, “I was seated in the kitchen, with my chair, as my mother was tying my shoelaces and draping a sweater around me. It struck me that she was weeping. I pondered what could be wrong, but couldn’t figure out how to inquire. Before I departed, she showered me with affectionate kisses and then gave me a hearty hug.”
The Academy Award-winning celebrity also mentioned that it wasn’t commonplace, yet he was excited about reuniting with the other kids, and he didn’t dwell on it any further.
The seasoned celebrity continued to share details about the circumstances when, near his grandparents’ home on the street, there was a disturbance. He recalled witnessing an ambulance parked outside the building and seeing his mother being taken out from the front door on a stretcher. He described this as “an attempt at taking her own life.”
After experiencing a severe setback, his mother recovered to some extent and took care of the actor known for The Scent of a Woman for numerous years.
According to the star, she planned to show him movies, and he confessed that from a young age, he’d mentally rehearse character dialogues. Yet, it was insinuated that she discouraged him from pursuing acting as a career.
Instead, let me rephrase it in a more casual manner: However, Pacino followed his dreams and left home without finishing school to pursue this career path. Later on, he tried out for a role which ultimately led him to attend the High School of Performing Arts, as reported in the article.
Readers are eagerly awaiting Sonny Boy: A Memoir by the renowned actor Al Pacino. The book promises an intimate look at his life that fans have not seen before, and it’s set for release on October 8, 2024.
