The world of anime is constantly changing, with new shows appearing alongside popular series on streaming services. Crunchyroll is still the go-to platform for many fans following the latest anime, especially in the action, fantasy, and supernatural genres. This week’s most popular shows include both long-running favorites and exciting new releases. Viewers are enjoying a wide variety of stories, from intense fight scenes to complex and detailed worlds.
‘MF GHOST’ (2023–)

This anime is set in Japan’s future, where electric, self-driving cars are everywhere. It follows Kanata Rivington, a young racer who enters the MFG – a street racing circuit for traditional gasoline-powered cars – hoping to find his father. Driving a Toyota 86 GT, he takes on powerful supercars on dangerous public roads. The show is inspired by the classic anime ‘Initial D’ and features realistic explanations of high-speed drifting, brought to life with a mix of hand-drawn animation and detailed computer graphics for the racing scenes.
‘Gachiakuta’ (2025)

Rudo, a young man living in a slum, is wrongly accused of murder and sent to “The Abyss,” a massive garbage dump. There, he learns he’s a Giver – someone with supernatural abilities linked to objects they treasure. He teams up with the Cleaners, a group dedicated to fighting monsters made of trash, all while trying to find a way back to the normal world. The series is known for its striking urban punk visuals and exciting, quick action. It’s created by the famous animation studio Bones and based on the manga by Kei Urana.
‘Solo Leveling’ (2024–)

I’m completely hooked on this story about Sung Jinwoo! Imagine a world with these magical portals, called gates, that lead to dangerous dungeons full of monsters. Jinwoo starts out as the weakest hunter you can imagine, barely scraping by. But after a crazy experience in a hidden dungeon, he gets chosen by this incredible program called the System, and it lets him get stronger – like, level up in a video game! It’s amazing to watch him go from being the bottom of the barrel to a seriously powerful fighter. It’s based on a really popular webtoon from South Korea, and it’s all about seeing Jinwoo grow and the intense battles he fights. Plus, there’s a big mystery about why those gates even appeared and where Jinwoo’s powers really come from – it’s a wild ride!
‘Easygoing Territory Defense by the Optimistic Lord’ (2026–)

Van, born into a noble family known for powerful offensive magic, is different – he has a rare skill for creating things, not fighting. Considered untalented because of this, he’s exiled to rule a poor, remote region. Using his ability to instantly build structures and tools, Van revitalizes the village, turning it into a strong and thriving territory. The story is a fun and lighthearted tale of building a city and gathering friends to defend it, showing how even seemingly useless skills can help someone succeed despite facing prejudice and tough conditions.
‘Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End’ (2023–)

The story starts after a group of heroes successfully defeat the Demon King and try to settle back into normal life. Frieren, an elf who can live for centuries, observes her human companions grow old and die. This makes her realize how short human lives are, and she embarks on a journey to remember her friends and better understand human feelings. The series is known for its thoughtful and somewhat sad tone, and it offers a fresh take on typical fantasy stories. It follows Frieren’s personal development through a series of separate adventures and memories from her original ten-year quest.
‘ROLL OVER AND DIE: I Will Fight for an Ordinary Life with My Love and Cursed Sword!’ (2026)

Flum Apricot is an ordinary girl with no magical or fighting skills who is tragically sold into slavery by her companions. While trying to survive, she discovers a cursed sword that unlocks incredible strength thanks to her unusual ability called “Reversal.” She then meets and rescues Milkit, and together they embark on a quest for a peaceful life, constantly fighting off those who would take advantage of them. The story is a dark fantasy filled with intense action, as Flum battles both monsters and people in a dangerous world. It’s based on a popular light novel series known for its harsh setting and the strong connection between its main characters.
‘Hell’s Paradise’ (2023–)

Gabimaru the Hollow, a highly skilled ninja facing execution, is given a chance at freedom: he must find the legendary Elixir of Life on a dangerous island. He’s joined by Sagiri, his executioner, as they journey through a bizarre land filled with terrifying creatures and deadly plants. This island, Shinkuraku, seems like paradise but is actually full of hidden threats to anyone who lands on it. Gabimaru and a group of other prisoners must use their fighting skills and unlock inner power to survive the island’s supernatural dangers. The story is known for mixing historical settings with intense psychological themes and disturbing, surreal imagery.
‘Jack-of-All-Trades, Party of None’ (2026–)

I’m totally hooked on this story about Raust! He’s a healer, but a bit of an underdog – he only has one simple healing spell, and his powerful party basically laughed him out of the group. What they didn’t know is he spent all that time becoming a seriously skilled fighter and tactician! He teams up with this amazing martial artist, Narmie, and together they build a new team. They’re not about flashy powers; it’s all about working together and using smarts to conquer dungeons. It’s really inspiring to see how they climb the ranks, proving that hard work and knowing your stuff can beat natural talent any day. It’s a fantastic take on the whole RPG fantasy thing!
‘Sentenced to Be a Hero’ (2026–)

In a land overrun by the Demon King’s army, the worst criminals are given a brutal choice: fight for the kingdom as punishment, or face death. Magically bound and thrown into the most dangerous battles, these convicts are expected to survive where regular soldiers fall. The story centers on Hideo, a criminal tasked with leading this desperate band of outcasts, all while seeking a chance to redeem himself during wartime. It’s a dark and realistic take on the hero’s journey, exploring the mental strain of being a forced protector in a society that still despises you, and questioning where the line truly lies between villain and hero.
‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ (2020–)

When high schooler Yuji Itadori swallows a cursed finger from the powerful demon Ryomen Sukuna, he’s thrown into a world of sorcery. He enrolls at Tokyo Jujutsu High to learn to control the curse inside him and collect the remaining pieces of Sukuna’s power. With the help of his classmates and teacher, Satoru Gojo, he fights dangerous Curses—spirits born from negative human emotions. The series is known for its exciting fights and stunning animation by studio MAPPA, and it tackles serious questions about death, responsibility, and the cost of protecting others in a dangerous world.
