‘Agatha All Along’ Showrunner Quashes Hopes for Adaptation of Beloved Marvel Couple

As a dedicated fan who has witnessed the evolution of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) over the years, I must say that the latest revelations about Agatha All Along have been nothing short of intriguing! Aubrey Plaza’s character, Rio Vidal, being revealed as Death was a twist I didn’t see coming.

By the time we reach the last installment of “Agatha All Along”, quite a few puzzles have been unraveled, and numerous enigmatic characters have had their true selves revealed, unlike at the series’ onset.

Among the many enigmas, one of the most intriguing questions revolved around Aubrey Plaza’s character, Rio Vidal. Initially, viewers speculated that she might be Mephisto’s son or Blackheart, but eventually, her true identity was unveiled – first through a sneak peek from Marvel merchandise and later confirmed within the series itself.

In simpler terms, you could say that “Rio Vidal is, in fact, the true character of the Green Witch, Death. Her specific role within the series remains undetermined, but we do know that she has become a member of the coven on their ‘Witches’ Path’, with the intention of collecting their bodies. This was hinted at in episode 4.

In the past, Rio shared a romantic relationship with Agatha, but currently, their connection has transformed into one of animosity. Yet, the details surrounding this shift have not been disclosed as of now. Contrastingly, Death’s narrative in the comics follows a distinct course.

In the world of comics, Lady Death and Thanos, the Titan, are frequently linked together. Thanos has a profound affection for her, and this longing for her acceptance fuels much of his behavior, particularly his pursuit of power and devastation. He holds the belief that by annihilating numerous beings, he can demonstrate his worthiness for her love.

In the tales of Thanos, the character known as Lady Death significantly shapes events, often swaying his decisions to create turmoil. At times, she manipulates him by convincing him to take actions beneficial to her own ends, demonstrating that despite his immense strength, she holds sway over him in subtle ways.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Thanos is confirmed deceased, but there exist alternate versions of him across various universes. Josh Brolin has suggested a possible return for the antagonist, sparking fan theories about his connection with Aubrey Plaza’s character. However, the showrunner of Agatha All Along, Jac Schaeffer, has since dismissed those speculations, ruling out any link between Thanos and Plaza’s character.

During an interview with Inverse, Schaeffer hinted at potential developments in Death’s narrative within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). According to her, additional insights into this storyline will be unveiled in the final couple of episodes of the series.

In the upcoming episodes, there’s going to be a deeper exploration of our portrayal of Death, though some aspects are meant for individual interpretation within the series. However, the final two episodes will offer a clearer insight into her workings.

Schaeffer also discussed Vidal’s link to Thanos, which disappointed many fans.

In my series, Thanos isn’t featured, therefore I can’t discuss any links related to him. For all the Thanos fans out there, I’m sorry but I don’t have any responses for you.

It’s worth noting that Lady Death was almost included in the film “Infinity War”. In this movie, Thanos ventures into the realm of the dead to gather all the Infinity Stones. During this journey, he encounters Red Skull, portrayed by Ross Marquand rather than Hugo Weaving. Unlike his character in the “Captain America” films, Red Skull acts as a guide for visitors in “Infinity War”.

Initially, I wasn’t the original pick for the role, another character was proposed instead. Many fans believe that character would have been a more suitable fit within the narrative, leaving some of us feeling a bit let down.

Ross Marquand revealed that the Russo Brothers opted against introducing Lady Death towards the end of the Infinity Saga. Instead, the Red Skull’s cloak in the film served as a subtle hint towards Lady Death’s significance in the “Infinity Gauntlet” comic book series.
