AGATHA ALL ALONG Showrunner Confirms Agatha Is Dolly Parton’s Jolene in the MCU

As a longtime gamer and avid fan of both Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and classic country music, I find myself utterly captivated by the ingenious revelation that Agatha Harkness, the enchantress from Westview, was none other than the real-life inspiration behind Dolly Parton’s iconic “Jolene.

In a fascinating twist, it has been revealed that the character Agatha Harkness from the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s “Agatha All Along” series was the real inspiration behind Dolly Parton’s iconic 1972 song “Jolene.” Even Beyoncé covered this country classic on her latest album, “Cowboy Carter.” The song tells a tale of an alluring woman with red hair who attempts to lure away Dolly’s man. Regardless of your preference for country music, the worldwide appeal of “Jolene” is undeniable. This connection was confirmed by Jac Schaeffer, the showrunner of “Agatha All Along,” in an interview with The Wrap.

That was a [series writer] Laura Donney idea. And it was one of, I remember being one of the most fun days in the room, was everybody coming in with their sort of low-level Agatha nasties. And that was Laura Donney. She was like, ‘She’s Jolene.’ And we were just like, everybody fell out. It was so funny.

In the 70’s, Agatha Harkness opted for a red hairstyle instead of her traditional raven-black one. It certainly fits her! Perhaps she employed some enchanting illusion? It’s hard to picture someone as gentle as Dolly Parton physically attacking someone. However, if there is someone on this planet capable of bringing out the worst in almost everyone, it would be Agatha Harkness.

In episode six of “Agatha All Along,” it’s unveiled that Agatha has a troubling past as Jolene, which is shown in flashbacks. During these flashbacks, Billy Maximoff is seen investigating Agatha’s online history and discovers numerous incidents where she was present, resulting in catastrophic events such as the sinking of the Titanic and the Hindenburg disaster. Despite the immense loss of life in those tragedies, it’s her attempt to interfere with Dolly P that really angers us, as there are some lines you just shouldn’t cross.
