As a devoted Marvel enthusiast with a soft spot for the enchanting world of witches, I must say that the latest revelations from D23 have left me utterly spellbound! The tantalizing glimpse into Agatha All Along, particularly Kathryn Hahn’s captivating portrayal of Agatha Harkness, has sent my heart aflutter like never before.
As a dedicated Disney fan, I eagerly anticipate the D23 event every year, and this time around, it’s no different. This extraordinary gathering is where Disney unveils exciting updates about their upcoming projects, making it the highlight of our calendar. In fact, last year, we were treated to groundbreaking news alongside an awe-inspiring performance of Agatha All Along. I can hardly wait to see what magical announcements and performances await us this time!
The August 9-11 event provided MCU enthusiasts with a second glimpse of Kathryn Hahn’s character, Agatha Harkness, the hex-wielding witch. On this very day, August 9, a new trailer for Agatha All Along was unveiled at the event. To make things even more exciting, the event showcased a captivating live performance by actress Kathryn Hahn herself.
In the latest sneak peek, I find myself meandering through a serene forest, playing the role of a detective, much like Agatha we see on screen. This scene is reminiscent of the opening from the initial trailer, while a youthful voice echoes in the background, taunting Agatha as a witch without a coven, a comment made by Joe Locke’s character.
In the upcoming scenes, we’ll witness a flashback from WandaVision’s climactic battle between Scarlet Witch and Agatha. The trailer also hints at a terrifying journey this Halloween, as Agatha ventures into the morgue. So brace yourselves for a chilling experience this spooky season!
Following a glance at various characters from the show, such as Locke and Sasheer Zamata, among others, we encounter a previously absent element in a classic Disney narrative: a fresh melody titled “The Witches’ Pathway.”
As an unabashed admirer, I’d say it’s nothing short of brilliant how the enigmatic Aubrey Plaza’s character, Rio, makes her entrance in the most side-splitting fashion. She bursts forth from below ground, akin to a zombie resurrected, clawing her way up from six feet under – a spectacle that leaves me laughing each time I rewatch it!
As a lifestyle expert delving into the mystical arts, I must say that Agatha and her coven’s journey to attain their goal won’t be an effortless stroll. Their path is fraught with challenges that will test their depth of knowledge in witchcraft. Moreover, Hahn’s Agatha hints at the possibility that they might temporarily lose their powers along the way. Interestingly, she asserts that witches have been enduring and overcoming such power drains for countless centuries – a testament to their resilience and adaptability.
A subtle indication from the trailer suggesting the witches’ powers are depleting is the phrase, “The journey takes all,” which appears in the scene.
With a lot of action, witches, and a devil, the trailer concludes.
Returning to the D23 event, I had the privilege of joining forces with Kathryn Hahn and my fellow cast members – Locke, Patti LuPone, Ali Ahn, Zamata, and Debra Jo Rupp – for a live performance of “The Witches Road” on stage. What an unforgettable experience!
The song is written by the Emmy- and Oscar-winning team of Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.
Agatha All Along will premiere its first two episodes on Disney+ on September 18, 2024.
