Discussions are underway for Sophie Thatcher, known for her role in Yellowjackets, to star in Mr. & Mrs. Smith’s upcoming season 2. If the agreement is finalized, she and Mark Eydelshteyn will take on the lead roles of John and Jane Smith. Originally, Billie Eilish was considered for the part of Jane, but her busy touring schedule prevented her from being cast in the role.
The production company, which includes Amazon MGM Studios and New Regency, is seeking young actors aged around 20 to portray the main couple. These selected actors will be offered a contract lasting a year.
In the initial season, featuring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine, we follow two individuals posing as a married couple, both embarking on secretive spy careers. As their feelings deepen, their covert assignments grow increasingly perilous due to their growing affection towards one another.
The final episode of the season left viewers questioning the destiny of the characters, ending on a suspenseful edge. In the upcoming season 2, fresh interpretations of John and Jane will be presented, but they won’t fill in for Glover and Erskine; there’s still a chance those characters might reappear somehow.
For Season 2, both the mastermind behind the series, Donald Glover, along with Francesca Sloane who oversees the show, will be back on board. New Regency and Amazon MGM Studios remain involved in the production, but it’s yet to be decided if the show will maintain its anthology format for subsequent seasons.
