Adrien Brody Weighs in on Jacob Elordi’s Viral Red Carpet Moment With His Mother

Jacob Elordi has a very supportive mother, and a sweet moment between them was captured on video at the premiere of his new movie, a reimagining of Wuthering Heights. In the video, Elordi is seen giving his mother his chewing gum to hold while he poses for photos on the red carpet.

The video became incredibly popular online, and even actor Adrien Brody saw it. He had a similar moment at the 2025 Oscars when he was accepting his Best Actor award for The Brutalist. Brody famously handed his chewing gum to his partner, Georgina Chapman, before going onstage. When he saw the video of Elordi, Brody said he found the situation “completely relatable.”

Although some people joked about Brody’s awkwardness at the awards show, Chapman later explained that she was actually the one who asked him to hand her the gum. She said she noticed he suddenly realized he shouldn’t be chewing gum during such an important moment and specifically asked him to give it to her.

Brody recounted the story with a laugh on TV, explaining he’d completely forgotten about the gum in his mouth until they announced his name. He joked that it would have been awkward to give a speech while chewing. Later, he realized he could have just swallowed it, but his immediate reaction was to quickly get rid of it.

Jacob Elordi is now an Academy Award nominee for Best Supporting Actor, thanks to his role as the Creature in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein. This puts him in contention with acclaimed actors like Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro, Delroy Lindo, and Stellan Skarsgård.

To get ready for the role, the actor really explored what made the character tick, keeping a detailed journal written as if he was the monster. By the end of filming, he’d written so much about the character’s inner life – essentially a complete history of their thoughts – that he described the whole process as feeling completely lost in thought and disconnected from reality.

The actor drew inspiration from early 20th-century films to develop the Creature’s unique way of communicating. He and director Guillermo del Toro studied silent movies and realized that the performers used big, yet nuanced, expressions to convey meaning very effectively. Though some might consider that acting style exaggerated, Elordi found it surprisingly focused and clear.

Beyond awards shows, the Australian actor has been working on several major films. He’ll be playing Heathcliff in the new adaptation of Wuthering Heights, directed by Emerald Fennell and starring Margot Robbie – a film that’s already creating a lot of excitement. He’s also scheduled to appear in Ridley Scott’s upcoming science fiction movie, The Dog Stars, with Margaret Qualley later this year.
