Adolescence Director Eyes Next Project Post Netflix Success; to Helm Film Adaptation of The Alchemist: REPORT

News has emerged that acclaimed director Philip Barantini, currently garnering acclaim for his work on Adolescence, is now in talks to bring the beloved novel The Alchemist to the big screen. Rumors of this exciting development have been circulating, and it seems that prominent figures from Hollywood’s film industry are also showing interest in the highly anticipated project.

According to Variety’s report, it appears that Philip Barantini, a well-known filmmaker who was previously an actor, is currently engaged in negotiations for a project based on the mentioned novel, which promises to be an epic cinematic adaptation.

It appears that further sources indicate the renowned production company, Legendary, is set to develop a project inspired by the popular work of fiction written by Paulo Coelho. In case you’re not familiar, The Alchemist was initially published in 1988 and has since sold over 150 million copies, spending more than 400 weeks atop the New York Times Best-Seller list.

Furthermore, The Alchemist is also renowned for holding the title as the “most frequently translated book penned by a living writer.

According to reports, Legendary is aiming for a 2026 start date for filming. Additionally, it’s said that Sony’s TriStar Pictures and Palmstar are involved in the development and production of this project. Specifically, TriStar is focusing on arranging worldwide distribution for the upcoming movie.

Noteworthy to mention, Jack Throne, famously recognized for his contributions to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and His Dark Materials, is set to write the screenplay for the upcoming film.

If Philip Barantini accepts the offer, he will join our team following the completion of the ongoing production of Enola Holmes 3, where Millie Bobby Brown stars. Interestingly, the script for this series is penned by Jack Thorne as well.
