Adolescence: British PM Kier Starmer Says Show ‘Hit Home’ After Watching It With Kids and It’s Vital to ‘Explore Their Conversations With Peers’

The public official recently sat down with Jack Thorne, one of the creators behind the series, and revealed that they’ve been enjoying the show alongside their teenager kids, attempting to spark discussions around the themes presented in the program.

After speaking with Thorne and some other young individuals, Starmer announced that he supports the choice made by the streaming platform to broadcast the film “Adolescence” within educational institutions.

“Watching this show with my teenage kids as a dad, it really struck a chord with me.”

“From observing my own children, discussing openly about changes in their communication, the media they consume, and the talks they have with their friends is incredibly important.

The storyline centers around a 13-year-old character who stands accused of murdering one of his female schoolmates, with ensuing court proceedings serving as a backdrop. This series has gained global attention not only for its gripping plot but also for the exceptional acting and visual aesthetics on display. Remarkably, each set of four episodes was filmed in a single take.

Thorne, a co-creator along with Stephen Graham, suggested that parents should take steps to limit their kids under 14 from utilizing technology.

In his statement, Thorne expressed that the purpose of creating this show was to spark a dialogue. He further shared that having the chance to bring it into schools surpasses their initial expectations. They anticipate it will encourage teachers and students to discuss it, but what they truly desire is for it to inspire students to talk among themselves.
