‘Added Ear Infection To My Growing List Of Ailments’: Colin Jost Bids Farewell To Tahiti After Olympic Injuries

As an ardent admirer of Colin Jost, I must say his Tahitian escapade has left me in splits! The man’s resilience and humor throughout his challenging stint were truly commendable. Despite the less-than-ideal conditions, technical hitches, and a menagerie of chickens that could rival any farm, he managed to keep us all entertained with his wit.

The Tale of Colin Jost Unexpectedly Concludes in Tahiti: Known for his role on Saturday Night Live, Colin Jost served as a reporter covering the Olympic surfing events. However, due to a string of injuries, he chose to resign.

It seemed as though Jost would face difficulties during his time in Tahiti. For example, in July, he shared his observations about the less-than-perfect conditions on the island. During one of his broadcasts, he expressed apologies for delays and attributed them to technical issues. Interestingly, amidst all the chaos, a large area filled with chickens caught the comedian’s attention.

In Tahiti, Jost experienced multiple injuries. Most notably, he sustained a deep wound on his leg when a coral reef penetrated his skin while he was walking over it. He shared a photo on Instagram featuring bandages around his toes, accompanied by a caption implying that athletes spent fewer hours at the Olympic medical facility than he did.

Unfortunately, his wounds didn’t heal properly and he had to visit doctors daily due to recurring infections. To make things worse, he also developed a serious ear infection. Yet, despite his injuries, Jost remained true to his character with his sense of humor still intact. In a July broadcast, he joked, “I woke up today to find that I have added ear infection to my ever-growing list of health issues.”

During the broadcast, he playfully commented on enjoying piña coladas and other prescriptions given by doctors dealing with his immediate health issue, as mentioned by Jost. NBC opted to substitute him with Luke Bradnam, an Australian meteorologist who coincidentally was in French Polynesia at that time.

Jost’s stay in Tahiti concluded on a more cheerful note. His departure was earlier than expected due to postponed semi-finals and finals for surfing competitions because of insufficient big waves. However, before leaving, he posted a video with the quote “Rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated,” suggesting that he’s not gone but just temporarily away. Despite his untimely departure from Tahiti due to an injury sustained during the Olympics coverage, Jost left behind a sense of humor and liveliness that connected people in the world of comedy.
