Most recognized for playing Ben Wyatt on the television series ‘Parks and Recreation’, Adam Scott may have initially gained popularity, however, it was his captivating portrayal in the psychological thriller ‘Severance’ that truly solidified his fame.
In the series, he plays a character who is a dedicated worker, but has a device implanted in him that keeps his job and private life separate. However, his trust in the system weakens when he discovers that the safety of those close to him might be compromised.
More recently, Scott openly discussed his professional journey and confessed that ‘Severance’ was the culmination of all his aspirations.
The actor expressed that when he first read the script for ‘Severance’, it seemed like the type of story he’d been striving for during his entire career. He confessed that initially, he didn’t think he’d land the part, but after decades in acting, he felt it was the realization of his lifelong dream.
As a child, I was captivated by tales that seamlessly blended different genres, and this very blend reminded me of those cherished stories. It’s what initially ignited my passion to tread the boards as an actor.
The story’s genre blend is exactly what I’ve been striving for, a culmination of all my efforts over the past 20-30 years. Reading it felt like a dream role I could only aspire to play, yet I doubted I would ever get the chance. However, if I do, it will be because I’ve been slowly working my way towards this goal. This is exactly the kind of story that ignited my passion for this field when I was young and inspired me to pursue it in the first place.
In simple terms, Scott mentioned that as a producer for ‘Severance,’ his primary role is being accessible to assist and eliminate obstacles, be they creative or practical ones. He derives joy from aiding the team and playing a part in the larger scheme of things. While acting, particularly in his own show, fuels his creative drive, producing gives him the opportunity to think more expansively and provide constructive advice.
In essence, as a producer, I strive to stay accessible and offer assistance whenever needed. For me, producing is all about removing obstacles, whether they’re creative or otherwise, so I can help out wherever I can. With the show Severance, it’s fantastic because acting in this role is incredibly rewarding, yet it requires a lot of my creative energy. However, I also enjoy considering the broader context and being able to lend a helpful hand in that situation too.
