Adam Scott Gets Terrified in HOKUM Trailer

I’m really looking forward to this movie! I’ve loved everything Cormac McCarthy has done before, and I’m incredibly curious about the story. Each of his films gets bigger in scale, and this one seems just as unsettling and dark as his others, but with even more potential for suspense. I’m particularly excited to see Scott, who’s a fantastic deadpan actor, really go all out with a crazy performance.

The synopsis of Hokum doesn’t add a ton of context, but it is as follows:

Novelist Ohm Bauman, played by Scott, goes to a secluded inn to scatter his parents’ ashes, but becomes fascinated by local stories of a witch said to haunt one of the rooms. Strange visions and a mysterious disappearance soon lead him to face painful memories from his past.

As a horror fan, I’m really excited about this movie! It blends Irish folklore with a spooky story—a witch in a honeymoon suite is a perfect combination. Plus, it features the cursed bellhop bell from the show Oddity, which is a fun connection. I can’t wait to see what terrifying things happen to Ohm (and to us, the audience!) in Hokum, coming to theaters on May 1st.

I’m a big fan of Kyle Anderson – he’s the Senior Editor over at TopMob, and I always make time for his podcast, Laser Focus, which really gets into the details of pop culture. If you’re looking for thoughtful film and TV reviews, he’s your guy, and you can even find him on Letterboxd to see what he’s been watching!
