Actresses Who Reportedly Demanded Their Co-Stars Be Fired

Hollywood appears glamorous, but behind the scenes, there’s often a lot of conflict and bad feelings. While most actors remain professional, some stars will use their power to get colleagues fired from a project. These disputes usually happen because of creative differences, personality conflicts, or competition for more screen time. When a leading actress takes this kind of control, it can cause significant casting changes and disrupt a film or show’s production.

Alyssa Milano

Behind the scenes of the TV show ‘Charmed,’ things got really difficult between the two lead actresses during the third season. Reports say Alyssa Milano told producers she wanted either her or Shannen Doherty to leave the show. This disagreement ultimately led to Shannen Doherty’s character, Prue Halliwell, being killed off in the season finale. More recently, cast members have shared that a mediator was brought in to try and resolve the issues before the decision was made. This change significantly altered the show’s direction and is still a popular topic for fans to discuss.

Jennie Garth

Behind the scenes of ‘Beverly Hills, 90210,’ there was a lot of drama caused by competition among the main actors. Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling allegedly asked the show’s producer, Aaron Spelling, to fire Shannen Doherty, claiming she was often late and difficult to work with. He agreed, and Doherty’s character was removed from the show after season four. Garth has since discussed the competitive spirit among the young cast that contributed to the tension.

Lea Michele

During filming of the TV show ‘Glee’, Lea Michele and Naya Rivera had a very public falling out. According to reports, Michele asked producers to decrease Rivera’s role in the show, or even remove her completely, after a series of arguments. Rivera’s part in the fifth season finale was ultimately reduced, and she appeared much less in the final season. In her book, Rivera explained that the issues stemmed from Michele’s discomfort with sharing the focus, and differences in how they approached work and their personalities.

Julia Roberts

The 1994 film ‘I Love Trouble’ is better known for the tension between its stars, Julia Roberts and Nick Nolte, than for its romantic storyline. Roberts apparently had a very difficult time working with Nolte, to the point where she requested the use of stand-ins so they wouldn’t have to film scenes together. Stories from the set suggest she tried to reduce the amount of time she and Nolte had to interact. Later, Roberts publicly called Nolte “disgusting,” and he responded by saying she wasn’t a pleasant person. Their strong dislike for each other meant they never worked together again.

Julianna Margulies

As a big fan of ‘The Good Wife’, I remember being really bummed to hear about the rumored falling out between Julianna Margulies and Archie Panjabi towards the end of the show. It got to the point where they apparently weren’t even filming scenes together anymore, which was so strange! That final scene with them was clearly put together using special effects, and a lot of people speculated that Julianna had something to do with Archie eventually leaving the series. Neither of them ever really said what happened, but it was pretty obvious their working relationship had completely broken down. It was sad to see Kalinda Sharma leave, and it definitely felt like something was off behind the scenes.

Bette Davis

After their hit movie ‘What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?’, Bette Davis and Joan Crawford were scheduled to star together again in ‘Hush…Hush, Sweet Charlotte’. But Bette Davis, who was also an executive producer on the film, reportedly made working conditions so difficult for Crawford that she tried to get her fired. Davis supposedly limited Crawford’s role in the movie and encouraged the crew to be unfriendly towards her. Crawford eventually left the project, saying she was sick, and Olivia de Havilland took her place. This incident cemented the famous rivalry between the two Hollywood stars.
