As an ardent fan of Invincible, I’ve been on this rollercoaster ride since the comic books graced our shelves and now with the TV series on Prime Video. The anticipation for season 3 is palpable, but hearing about a potential fourth season just sent my fandom into overdrive! And oh boy, the rumors of a live-action movie have been swirling like a cosmic storm since 2017, and I’ve grown accustomed to weathering this wait.
The Invincible animated series on Amazon Prime Video has enjoyed widespread success since it premiered in March 2021. Not only has season 3 been confirmed and is set to premiere soon, but even the fourth season has received approval. Furthermore, discussions about a live-action Invincible film have been circulating; this movie was actually announced prior to the series’ debut. Lastly, the creator of the series, Robert Kirkman, recently provided an update on the project.
The highly acclaimed comic book series “Invincible,” penned by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley, garnered incredible success, with its popularity soaring even higher when adapted into a TV show. However, the upcoming live-action film, initially announced in 2017, has been stuck in development limbo, leaving fans eager for updates on the project’s progress.
After speaking with The Direct, Kirkman provided an update on the progress of the movie, saying, “We’re still developing it with Universal.” He also mentioned that the production delay is because they are striving for perfection, as he stated, “Given how well the show is doing, I believe the movie needs to be absolutely flawless.”
Kirkman mentioned that the reason for the prolonged early stages of the movie is because “it’s about arranging all the parts correctly and making sure everything functions well” in order to generate outstanding ideas and produce the best possible outcome. Unfortunately, he admitted that the film will be under development for an extended period; as he put it, “it’s been in development for quite some time already, and it looks like it will continue to be in development for a while yet.”
Given the grand scope of a superhero film, there are numerous aspects to consider when creating such a project, such as the creative vision, budget, and many other elements, all while ensuring the story remains fresh amidst the prevalent superhero fatigue. With Prime Video’s proven track record for original series, this movie is in capable hands and definitely worth the anticipation.
“Kirkman went on to say that while the movie needs to offer a distinct experience compared to the show, it will remain true to Invincible in unique ways. He emphasized that the film must stand independently and not just as an extension of what has come before. He’s been dedicating time to ensure its success, stating, “We’re putting a lot of effort into making it exceptional. I believe when it’s released, it will be quite impressive.”
Previously, Kirkman also shared a comparable update about the film during his chat with Comicbook.com. He emphasized that they’re still actively working on it, keeping fans hopeful. He noted that movies sometimes require extra time in the production phase. Fortunately, the series on Amazon Prime has served as a valuable ally for the upcoming live-action movie. Kirkman further stated that there’s a lot of enthusiasm about the movie at Universal, and they’re capitalizing on this excitement to advance things as rapidly as feasible. Similarly, Marvel Studios’ Blade reboot featuring Mahershala Ali has been encountering a similar challenge, as it remains in development limbo without a director assigned yet.
Regarding the latest news about the show “Invincible”, we can look forward to a fourth season! As of now, there’s no specific timeframe given for when its third season will air, but it could potentially premiere in the upcoming year.
