Cory Ng is one of the prominent figures associated with the popular culinary scene of Chinatown in New York City. At 37 years old, this successful restaurateur and chef, known for establishing downtown NYC’s Potluck Club and its related restaurant, Phoenix Palace, demonstrates a strong influence in the creation of innovative Cantonese-American fusion dishes. He graciously allowed us to tag along during his daily routine, offering an up-close view into his work life – from the bustling kitchen to the courtside events and beyond.
Ng mentioned that the Potluck Club is designed to resemble what it might be like growing up in Chinatown, New York during the 1970s and 1980s as he led us inside.
In a casual and engaging manner, Ng guides us through his local neighborhood streets, highlighting notable sites such as the Wyndham Garden Hotel, formerly known as the Music Palace – Chinatown’s last standing Chinese music theater. Afterward, he leads us into Phoenix Palace for a festive Lunar New Year Senior Meal celebration.
In his own words, “Let me make this clear, young one. For two decades, we’ve been giving our all each and every day. We climbed the steps to reach where we are now.
