Jenna Coleman on filming The Jetty ending
An unexpected twist in the show’s narrative towards the end heightened the intrigue surrounding Amy’s unsolved murder case. Determined detective Ember, who had been investigating the seventeen-year-old disappearance of young girl Amy, joined forces with crime podcast host Riz (Weruche Opia) in their quest for the truth.
After a number of unexpected events, it came to light that Ember had accidentally hit and killed Amy while driving under the influence of drugs years ago. However, her companion Arj took on the guilt for this incident and went as far as killing Riz to conceal their involvement.
Surprisingly, Ember went ahead and accused Arj of murder, even though she was aware of the true circumstances – an unexpected turn of events for audiences accustomed to Ember’s unwavering justice.
In an interview with Variety, Coleman shared that they filmed several different endings for the show. “Wow, yes, there were indeed multiple endings. It was quite intriguing as I received the script for the first episode with a treatment already in place,” she explained.
The actress shared that the original script concluded with a vastly dissimilar finale, and they filmed two distinct versions for the actual ending. In one take, she remained silent. According to her explanation, “No words left her lips. The detectives made their assumptions, and she didn’t correct them unlike what was spoken in the scene.”

Coleman on what appealed her to the show
In this crime drama series, there are disturbing scenes of violence and hate crimes. What particularly drew the attention of the actress from “Victoria” was the exploration of trauma and the unconscious mind. Even though her character is a detective, she is not immune to past wounds, and each case unearths painful memories hidden within her subconscious.
She found that part of the tale intriguing: how our brains have the ability to hide things, as well as our memories. In the course of the series, Ember’s journey towards self-discovery becomes more and more captivating for Coleman to depict.
The Jetty is now streaming on iPlayer in the U.K.
