In Dead By Daylight, characters licensed from other franchises tend to attract many players, and Behaviour Interactive often charges for them. It would make sense that these characters are powerful within the game, but this isn’t always the case. For instance, Chucky was overpowered at launch, leading to a recent balance adjustment that has left him in a weaker state. Similarly, Freddy Krueger has faced difficulties, prompting a redesign for the new year to improve his performance.
In the recent developer update, Behaviour shared that despite Freddy being a tough opponent for newer players, he’s starting to feel overshadowed in the current Dead by Daylight setting. However, they are thrilled about the prospect of enabling players to once again experience the chilling delight of putting on his iconic sweater and causing chaos as only Freddy Krueger can.
Here’s the full list of changes to the Nightmare:
[CHANGE] Press Active Ability to swap between Dream Snares and Dream Pallets.
Developer’s Update: We’re excited to announce that a much-anticipated feature is now live! The Nightmare can now fully embody his terrifying persona by slowing Survivors and causing psychological distress. This update allows for seamless switching between two powerful abilities, thereby increasing the Killer’s potential and offering him versatile tools during a chase.
In the updated version, Dream Snares travel at a speed of 12 meters per second, with a recharge time of 5 seconds. These snares can pass through walls and climb stairs, but they won’t be able to jump off ledges.
[NEW] Dream Snares now feature distinct interplay with Survivors, regardless of whether they are Asleep or Awake. When a Survivor is Sleeping, they’ll be Impaired for approximately 4 seconds, whereas an Awake Survivor will experience an additional 30 seconds on their Sleep Meter.
Developer’s Note: This update enhances The Nightmare’s versatility in employing the Snare, enabling him to utilize it against a broader range of adversaries. By no longer requiring Survivors to be asleep for its effect, this change will significantly alter not only the balance of power but also the thematic aspects of the gameplay experience as well.
Dream Pallets have the ability to detonate, spraying blood at a distance of 3 meters, starting 1.5 seconds after activation. If a sleeping Survivor is struck by this, they will sustain injuries. However, if an awake Survivor is hit, it will extend their Sleep Timer by 60 seconds.
Note for Developers: Landing a successful deception with Dream Pallets has been enjoyable and fulfilling in mind gaming Survivors. To further enhance this experience, we’ve added an extra layer of benefit: even if the Survivor manages to evade the chase, they might end up with a haunting memento as a reminder of you.
[NEW] As a thrilled fan of the horror, I’m excited to share that The Nightmare now has the power to teleport to fully-operated, obstructed, and endgame Generators, as well as any Survivor who is healing within the Dreamworld. When Dream Projection is activated on a healing Survivor, it transports The Nightmare to a location within 12 meters of their position. After completing a teleport, nearby Survivors (within an 8-meter radius) will be exposed with heightened Killer Instinct and will receive an additional 15 seconds on their Sleep Meter.
The waiting period for using the Teleport ability has been reduced from 45 seconds to 30 seconds, and it is now impossible to cancel this action once initiated.
Designer’s Insight: A key aspect of The Nightmare’s gameplay involves giving the impression that it’s omnipresent. Its Dream Projection plays a significant role in achieving this. To enhance this further, we’ve implemented some adjustments and eliminated the issue where Survivors’ progress makes The Nightmare’s Power irrelevant.
In the end, we arrive at the Dream Realm. Be warned, its name can be misleading – this place is anything but a dream. Our aim for this update was to instill fear, suspicion, and a sense of urgency within the sleeping Survivors, so we made some subtle yet significant adjustments.
In the realm of Dreams, survivors undergoing healing will be exposed by Killer Instinct. This exposure persists for three seconds following cessation of healing, enabling The Nightmare to transport himself to these survivors’ locations.
Additionally, we’re enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the Dream World slightly, making it more captivating and immersive for players. Look forward to ongoing improvements in the future, as we strive to bring you an even richer experience!
[CHANGE] Sleeping Survivors can use any Alarm Clock to wake up.
After setting off the Alarm Clock, there’s a 45-second cooling-off period where it becomes inactive and unavailable for use.
Developer Note: To enhance the Survivor gameplay, we’ve decided to tackle some common frustrations, particularly concerning Alarm Clocks and waking up in general. We believe these adjustments will greatly improve your experience when playing against The Nightmare, without causing a major shift in the overall game balance.
It’s our pleasure to present the revised edition of “The Nightmare” for your perusal, and we eagerly anticipate hearing your thoughts. That said, should we find ourselves dozing off, rest assured that we won’t miss any of your valuable feedback!
The Nightmare’s Add-Ons
Completing the revamp includes a significant overhaul to all The Nightmare’s Extra Features, designed to spark creativity when you’re planning your next gear setup. Although the complete list is extensive and can’t be included here, I’ll share some key Extra Features arriving with this update:
Red Paint Brush (Iridescent)
In the Dream World, survivors remain oblivious to your presence unless they are more than 32 meters distant from you. Each failed skill check increases a survivor’s Sleep Meter by 50% in the Dream World.
Black Box (Iridescent)
[OLD] Recently opened Exit Gates are blocked for 15 seconds.
[NEW] Exit Gates are blocked for Sleeping Survivors for 15 seconds when they are opened.
Swing Chains (Very Rare)
In a slightly worn yet robust condition, chains were utilized to firmly fasten a swing seat. As Survivors traverse the Dream World, the echoes of their footsteps are amplified by half.
[NEW] After using Dream Projection, block all vaults within 16 meters for 6 seconds.
As a thrilled fan, I can’t wait to catch sight of the complete arsenal when the update launches. Trust me, the Dream Demon is going to have an array of chilling capabilities at its disposal in the near future!
I’m hoping the changes guide Freddy to his desired destination. Rest assured, App Trigger will provide updates about this and any other important DBD news.
