A New Black Panther Might Be Coming to the MCU — One Name Is Leading the Rumors

Everyone’s really excited about what’s next for Wakanda in the Marvel movies, and honestly, I’m spending a lot of time wondering who will become the new Black Panther. It’s all anyone can talk about!

Marvel is reportedly searching for a new Black Panther to appear in the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars movie. Industry source Daniel Richtman says Marvel has already started talking to actors for the part, and Aaron Pierre is being considered as a frontrunner.

During a recent event for the upcoming Fantastic Four movie, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige offered a small update on the next Black Panther film. He didn’t share a specific release date, but confirmed the creative team, including director Ryan Coogler, knows exactly where the new movie fits within the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe. Feige jokingly said that if Coogler claims not to know the timeline, that’s exactly how they want it, highlighting the director’s commitment to keeping details under wraps.

Ryan Coogler has been developing the next Black Panther film for several years. He and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige began discussing it in November 2022, allowing the actors time to process Chadwick Boseman’s passing and prepare to continue the story. Letitia Wright, who plays Shuri, shared in early 2023 that the cast needed time to come together before returning to Wakanda for the next chapter.

Denzel Washington is a possible new addition to the film, and director Ryan Coogler has confirmed the rumors that started in 2024. In a June interview with Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson, Coogler expressed his strong desire to work with Washington, saying he’s “dying to make that happen.” He stated he fully intends to include Washington in the movie, as long as the actor is interested. Coogler described Washington as a “living legend,” a valuable mentor, and someone who has consistently supported them.

Marvel is being very cautious about replacing Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa. According to Nate Moore, a Vice President at Marvel, there are no current plans to find a new actor for the role. He explained that the team has been prioritizing other projects while director Ryan Coogler finished his latest movie, Sinners. Moore also stated that they haven’t even begun discussing the next Black Panther film in detail.

As a huge Marvel fan, I’m already buzzing about Avengers: Secret Wars! It’s not just about who’s taking on the mantle of Black Panther now, but there’s also talk that Denzel Washington might be joining the cast! It sounds like Marvel is really aiming for a mix of exciting new characters and established acting legends, which I think is a brilliant idea.
