I was so excited to see HBO present *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms* at New York Comic Con this year! Thankfully, TopMob live-streamed the whole thing, which was amazing. The panel itself was fantastic, with showrunner Ira Parker, George R.R. Martin, and the stars Peter Claffey (Ser Duncan the Tall) and Dexter Sol Ansell (playing Egg) all there. And they started things off with a really great trailer – I can’t wait for the show!
The first season of the show is based on George R.R. Martin’s novella, “The Hedge Knight,” which features his characters Dunk and Egg. Martin himself says the adaptation is very true to the source material, and the trailer demonstrates this. It’s filled with characters and scenes taken directly from the book. The story centers on Ser Duncan the Tall, a courageous but reckless hedge knight, and his determined young squire.
Though the story of Dunk and Egg begins with the common people, the trailer hints that they’ll inevitably become involved with the royal family – and in multiple ways. The series also stars Finn Bennett as Aerion Targaryen, Bertie Carvel as Baelor Targaryen, Sam Spruell as Maekar Targaryen, and Henry Ashton as Daeron Targaryen.
The cast includes Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle, Edward Ashley as Ser Steffon Fossoway, Youssef Kerkour as Steely Pate, Daniel Monks as Ser Manfred Dondarrion, Shaun Thomas as Raymun Fossoway, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor as Plummer, Danny Webb as Ser Arlan of Pennytree, and Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon.
How does a humble knight get caught up in the world of nobles and royalty? Those new to this popular pair’s story will discover the answer when *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms* premieres on HBO in January 2026.
