As a fan of George R.R. Martin’s stories, I was thrilled to see Dunk and Egg wrapping up their first adventure in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. We all knew where they were headed next, and who they’d encounter. Now, the show is filling out that next chapter! I’m excited to report that three major roles have been cast for the second season, joining stars Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell on their journey.
According to Variety, Peter Mullan (Braveheart, Children of Men), Lucy Boynton (Sing Street, Bohemian Rhapsody), and Babou Ceesay (Alien: Earth, The Best of Enemies) are joining the cast of HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. The second season will be based on George R.R. Martin’s novella, “The Sworn Sword.” Mullan will play Ser Eustace Osgrey, Boynton will play Lady Rohanne Webber (also known as The Red Widow), and Ceesay will play Ser Bennis of the Brown Shield.
Season two of the show will introduce three key new characters and focus on a more personal story than the first season. We’ll follow Dunk and his disguised prince as they work as traveling knights for Ser Eustace. The story takes place in a kingdom still recovering from past conflicts, where even small castles face significant challenges. (And having a strong knight around is always helpful!)
Now that Eustace, Lady Rohanne, and Bennis have been cast, there aren’t many significant roles left to fill for season two of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Based on the source material, the main characters are largely set, though showrunner Ira Parker could always introduce new ones. Right now, we’re especially curious to find out who will be playing Ser Lucas Inchfield.
Given how well-received the first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was, HBO likely has a lot of freedom in choosing talent.
