I’m a huge fan of George R.R. Martin’s “Dunk and Egg” stories, and this trailer has me incredibly excited for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. This first story, featuring Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) and his squire, Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), feels more personal and focused than the epic scope of Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon. Everything we’ve seen so far really captures that intimate feel.
Like the stories before it, this one features characters and scenes you won’t soon forget. While it doesn’t have dragons – at least, not real ones – the Targaryen family plays a major role. They’ve simply lost much of the power and prestige they once held.
What happens when a humble knight becomes the focus of a Targaryen prince? And will any of the realm’s great lords respond to Ser Duncan’s plea for honorable men? We’ll see when A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms begins a big year for George R.R. Martin’s fantasy universe. The first season, with six episodes, premieres on January 19, 2026, followed by the summer debut of House of the Dragon‘s third season.
Both stories will definitely have some good characters, but they’ll be interesting because they’ll also include characters who aren’t so virtuous.
