The first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms wasn’t as large in scope as Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon, but it still delivered plenty of drama and political maneuvering. It also included one of the most brutal and violent fight scenes ever filmed for the series – the clash between Ser Duncan the Tall and Aerion Brightflame was particularly bloody and intense. However, filming wasn’t always so serious! The season one blooper reel reveals the lighthearted and funny moments that happened behind the scenes while bringing the first story of Dunk and Egg to HBO.
Although the Ashford tournament in the show ended tragically with a prince’s death, filming wasn’t always so dramatic! This collection of funny outtakes – including flubbed lines, breaks in action, and even some dancing – gives you a behind-the-scenes look at what happened when things went wrong while making A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
Peter Claffey is perfectly cast as the charming and endearing hedge knight. He embodies the character so well that even when small mistakes happen, he still feels like Dunk. What a fantastic performer! (And a huge thank you to Baelor Breakspear for his heroic sacrifice. Rest in peace.)
Many viewers, like us, were curious how the other actors managed to stay serious while filming scenes with Daniel Ings as Lyonel Baratheon. The truth is, they often couldn’t! Ings, nicknamed “The Laughing Storm,” was constantly cracking jokes and making everyone – including himself – laugh. It’s amazing they were able to get any good footage, especially of Lord Lyonel singing that rather risqué tavern song, which speaks to the skill and patience of the whole cast and crew.
The blooper reel from “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” will be included with the upcoming DVD and Blu-ray release of the show, and we’re hoping it’s an extended version! While the events in the episode, like the Tourney at Ashford, were intense, it’s good to see the actors had fun filming. You can currently watch “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” on HBO Max.
