The popular ’90s TV show *Baywatch*, known for launching the careers of stars like Pam Anderson and Carmen Electra, is getting a new life. Fox Entertainment and Fremantle are bringing the show back with a reboot that’s already been ordered for 12 episodes, set to air in the 2026-2027 season.
It’s currently unknown who will be in the new version of the show, or if production has even started. We expect to find out soon, possibly before the end of 2025. However, Matt Nix is confirmed as the showrunner. According to a recent announcement, the reboot will capture the excitement of the original – including daring rescues, complex relationships, and heroic action – but with a fresh cast and a modern setting, exploring new conflicts and challenges as they protect the California coast.
The new *Baywatch* series aims to pay tribute to the original while offering compelling, fictional storylines. I’d much rather watch that than another reality show.
Fremantle CEO Christian Vesper stated that *Baywatch* is a valuable and globally recognized series, and they’ve partnered with FOX to ensure its continued success. He expressed confidence in showrunner Matt Nix’s ability to create a compelling story, aiming to both please longtime fans and attract a new audience to the iconic lifeguards.
We will keep our eyes out for who will run down a pristine beach on a screen near us.
