Speaking with Variety, director Zack Snyder shared some less encouraging news about the future of the “Rebel Moon” franchise following its launch as a video game on Netflix.
Snyder Takes a Break From Rebel Moon
Fans may anticipate additional installments or offshoots of Rebel Moon, but Snyder himself seems unsure about further developments, stating he needs a respite from that universe following the taxing process of filming both movies in quick succession.
What did Zack Snyder say about Rebel Moon?
Snyder explained to Variety that he had momentarily shifted focus, not exactly ‘sidetracked’, more like dealing with high-profile issues as they’re called, for a Netflix production – an LAPD SWAT film. He said, ‘I was thinking, alright, I’ll give ‘Rebel Moon’ some time to simmer, and I’ll dive into this instead.’ To be honest, working on the two movies simultaneously was overwhelming and demanding, so having a break from it was refreshing. Despite my deep affection for ‘Rebel Moon’, a brief pause is welcome.
The Franchise’s Future Is Uncertain
Snyder didn’t confirm any concrete plans moving forward.
As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but marvel at the sheer abundance of stories out there. To be honest, it feels like an endless sea of narratives just waiting to be explored. However, I remain cautiously optimistic about our future steps and the direction we might take in telling these tales, if we do so at all.
It’s noticeable that the phrase “if at all” implies Snyder might not be involved in the Rebel Moon project anymore. This aligns with the statement from his co-writer who suggested that the franchise seems to have come to an end, unless something extraordinary occurs.
Snyder Moves On to New Netflix Projects
At the moment, Snyder is engrossed in making an action movie based on LAPD-SWAT for Netflix, and he’s also working on a UFC-themed drama titled “Brawler”. A launch date for either production hasn’t been revealed yet.
