Without a doubt, “The Last of Us” stands as one of the top-tier TV series currently airing. In case you’re skeptical, even Emmy voters are singing its praises. Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey both earned lead acting nominations for 2025, and their recognition is absolutely merited. With the second season having wrapped up, viewers are already eagerly anticipating season three. The show has dropped numerous plot hints, and even bid farewell to Neil Druckmann. And now it’s confirmed that “The Last of Us” season three is targeting a 2027 premiere.
In an interview with Variety, HBO and Max’s content chief Casey Bloys discussed when the next season of a certain show would be released. He stated that the series is indeed slated for 2027, but creator Craig is still deciding whether it will be split into two more seasons or one extended season. The decision has not been made yet, and Bloys is waiting on Craig’s guidance in this matter.
In simpler terms, this implies that we might be able to enjoy a larger-than-life Season 3 of “The Last of Us” as early as 2027, and possibly even Season 4 after that, prolonging the series. It seems the show is unlikely to be canceled prematurely like many others. Frankly, we’d prefer a longer season over waiting. Admittedly, 2027 might seem distant, but in today’s context, two years isn’t an excessive wait for another season.
