In Firebreak, there’s an enigma surrounding the firebreak system that leaves many players puzzled after their initial gaming sessions, as they’re left with numerous unanswered questions about its functionality. The game’s tutorial primarily focuses on guiding you through mission entries, while other mechanics are sparsely explained via easily ignorable tooltips.
As a fellow enthusiast, I’d love to share some insights about the intricate workings of the game that I figured out on my own during playtime. Hopefully, these explanations will prove helpful for you too!
Stick together or you’ll get a blue flash
It was quite perplexing for us to encounter those unexpected blue bursts appearing on the screen at random moments, since the game does not provide any explanation regarding their cause or purpose.
It seems that when you move too far from your teammates, you’ll notice a blue flash, which signifies that you’ve lost your defensive shield bonus. This benefit is activated when you’re close to your team members, and it regenerates automatically. However, if you wander too far off, the shield will disappear, and that’s what the blue flash alerts you about.
Mash the elevator button
If you’ve found yourself impatiently waiting for the elevator after completing a game level and felt like time was dragging on, here’s a tip: Instead of standing there idly, try rapidly pressing the elevator call button. This action can speed up the timer significantly, making the elevator arrive more quickly than normal. However, ensure someone is watching your back while you do this to stay safe.
Documents are extra XP
To obtain items by requesting them, you’ll first need to accumulate Experience Points (XP) to acquire the unique currency. However, you may not have realized that there are additional ways to gather more of these items during a level. As you defeat special enemies or open safes, you might discover red folders filled with classified information, or even a leather briefcase. These discovered documents and cases actually award extra XP! Keep in mind, though, if you perish, these items will be lost, necessitating either you or your teammates to recover them.
Showers and taps are magic
In each new area, you’ll find a healing shower inside a green container – this isn’t just about restoring your health points, it’s much more extensive than that. It also removes almost all status conditions within the game, with the exception of getting wet. Moreover, you might not have noticed that the taps in shelters provide a small amount of healing. If used repeatedly, they can offer a significant boost to your health.
Fire makes monsters stronger
In this game, you might initially think that setting a monster ablaze, as the phrase goes, is the way to go. However, that’s not always the best choice. While fire does indeed cause harm to most monsters over time, it also has an unexpected effect: it strengthens them. This enhancement amplifies their attacks and, in certain instances, makes them more resistant to other types of damage. Instead, you should opt for a different strategy and attempt to make the monsters wet. This will weaken them instead.
You have limited respawns
You’ll figure this out when it’s already past, meaning at a point when it’s no longer possible to change the outcome. On top of your team’s health meters located at the bottom left corner of the screen, there’s a small green number. This number represents the total lives you all have left. Occasionally, it might be beneficial to opt for a quick respawn when you get knocked down, but do so sparingly because if you overuse this feature, you’ll deplete your lives. It’s important to note that these lives only begin to recharge once they’re completely used up, and the process is quite slow.
