83-year-old television personality, Kim Woodburn, has tragically passed away following a brief illness, her family announced. Known for her straightforward charisma and cleaning prowess, Kim gained popularity as the co-host of Channel 4’s successful series How Clean Is Your House alongside Aggie MacKenzie. She left this world on Monday, June 16th.
After 46 years of marriage, Kim Woodburn’s husband, Peter, is deeply saddened by her passing. In a statement, her representative shared: “With profound sadness, we inform you that our cherished Kim Woodburn passed away yesterday after a brief illness. Kim was a remarkably kind, compassionate, captivating, and resilient individual.
The family added: “We’re incredibly proud of all the fantastic accomplishments Kim made throughout her life and profession. We humbly request space and privacy for Kim’s spouse and intimate friends as they navigate their grief. We won’t be providing additional information at this time.
Kim Woodburn’s journey from cleaner to TV star
1942 saw the birth of Kim, who experienced a tough upbringing. At 16, she departed from home and took on a live-in cleaning job in Liverpool. In 2002, while employed in Kent, her unique personality caught Channel 4’s attention as they searched for a cleaner with an amusing disposition. Following a trial, Kim was teamed up with Aggie MacKenzie, and the popular show “How Clean Is Your House” was thus created.
The series gained immense popularity, lasting a total of six seasons up until 2009. Swiftly, she was referred to as the “Cleanliness Monarch” due to her no-nonsense approach and clever comebacks.
Apart from being recognized on reality TV, Kim made appearances on various shows. For instance, she was a contestant on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! in 2009, where she ended up as Gino D’Acampo’s runner-up. The following year, she participated in Celebrity Come Dine With Me, and in 2011, she was part of the Big Brother spin-off series.
In 2017, Kim once more grabbed attention as she joined the cast of Celebrity Big Brother, finishing in third place. Additionally, she frequently appeared on ITV’s Loose Women and This Morning programs.
Kim candidly spoke about the struggles in her life without hesitation. In her 2006 autobiography, Unbeaten: The Journey of My Tumultuous Childhood, she bravely disclosed that she was a victim of sexual abuse by her father and had an emotionally turbulent bond with her parents. Moreover, she emotionally recounted the tragic experience of giving birth to a stillborn baby at 23 and burying the child herself due to fear.
Looking back at her past, she once expressed her sadness, stating, “I often wish I had loving, stable parents. A strong foundation of good parenting is crucial. I believe it’s hard to completely move past an unhappy childhood.
The latest image of Kim was snapped on January 27 during the funeral of the drag artist The Vivienne, held in north Wales. She was spotted there, accompanied by her spouse, Peter.
