Liam Neeson Takes on The Naked Gun: First Trailer Dropped, Chaos Ensues!

Paramount has unveiled the initial preview for the revamped version of “The Naked Gun” series, a hilarious police comedy that will be in cinemas starting August 1st.

Neeson as Frank Drebin Jr.

In this new take on “The Naked Gun,” Liam Neeson assumes the role of Frank Drebin Jr., the offspring of Leslie Nielsen’s iconic bumbling detective character. Similar to his father, Drebin Jr. serves in Police Squad and unwittingly stumbles into a predicament far beyond his capabilities. Neeson delivers a serious portrayal that aligns with the franchise’s characteristic dry humor.

The movie is helmed by Akiva Schaffer, who’s famous for his work on Saturday Night Live and Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping. On the production side, we have Seth MacFarlane, renowned for creating Family Guy and Ted.

Returning the Absurd Humor

The reboot maintains the same comedic, absurd approach and satirical feel as the initial trilogy, starting with “The Naked Gun: From the Police Squad Files” that premiered in 1988. This movie and its subsequent sequels grossed a total of over $216 million. The original concept stemmed from the short-lived television show “Police Squad!“, created by Jim Abrahams and the Zucker brothers.

This fresh addition intends to maintain a consistent style. The script was penned by writers Dan Gregor, Doug Mand, with Schaffer directing it.
