The Schwartz is everywhere, and it’s particularly with us now. More than anything, it’s with Mel Brooks. The legendary comedian has confirmed the long-awaited, frequently speculated sequel to his science fiction parody is finally a reality. What’s even more exciting, Mel Gibson will be returning to his role as Yogurt in Spaceballs 2.
Mel Brooks, the iconic figure himself, concluded a side-splitting video from Amazon MGM Studios about the upcoming “Spaceballs 2” movie with a flourish. This witty spoof of the famous “Star Wars” scroll serves as a humorous reminder of all the major franchises that have produced films since “Spaceballs” premiered in 1987. Now, Mel Brooks’ timeless comedy is finally delivering on the sequel his character Yogurt hinted at in the original film. The movie is called “Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money“, a title we’re eagerly anticipating. Additionally, according to Deadline, Brooks will reprise his role as his mentor character, who was reminiscent of Yoda in the original film.
The movie “Spaceballs 2” will be directed by Josh Greenbaum. Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Josh Gad penned its script. Josh Gad is not only one of the film’s executive producers but also set to act in it. At this point, neither new nor old cast members have been confirmed for the movie, though the announcement video does showcase Dark Helmet’s distinctive helmet. However, it remains uncertain whether comedy legend Rick Moranis will reprise his role in the sequel; let’s hope he does!
It’s almost guaranteed that Amazon can afford to bring Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman, and Daphne Zuniga back for “Spaceballs 2.” After all, we’re discussing Amazon here – they essentially have an infinite cosmic budget!
Regarding the “Spaceballs 2” film, insiders who’ve seen the script say it’s not a prequel or a reboot, but rather a sequel with some reboot-like qualities and an expansion of the franchise. In simpler terms, it’s like part two, but with a twist, and it adds to the series.
I’ve been eagerly awaiting nearly four decades, but it seems we won’t have to wait that long anymore! Amazon MGM Studios has announced that “Spaceballs 2” is set to hit theaters in 2027. Here’s hoping that Mel Brooks will be a significant part of this sequel too.
