Genshin Impact’s Star Odyssey short casually reveals what Teyvat looks like from space

For Genshin Impact enthusiasts, the impending Dainsleif quest in Version 5.7 of the RPG has added fuel to their excitement. Not only does this update introduce the Twilight Sword for another significant lore drop quest, but the anticipation among players has reached new heights. This heightened expectation is further justified by the recently released animated short, Star Odyssey, which offers insight into why this is so.

In the upcoming Genshin Impact 5.7 banners, we’ll get to play as the enigmatic Skirk for the first time. The video offers a sneak peek into her background while subtly disclosing vital details about the game’s setting.

Just like the Traveler, Skirk hails from a place other than Teyvat. However, unlike the Traveler and other Descenders – foreigners with the power to alter Teyvat – Skirk didn’t voluntarily step into this world; that’s why she isn’t considered a Descender but rather a Trespasser. Her entry into Teyvat was facilitated by Surtalogi, one of the Five Sinners and eventually her guide, who, in a carefree move, tore open the illusory sky encircling Teyvat, thus allowing Skirk to enter.

Absolutely, there’s no denying that Surtalogi holds an astonishing amount of power. He can effortlessly strike down what appears to be a false sky whenever he wishes, something even Mavuika, the Pyro Archon, had to unleash the full might of the Ode of Resurrection to accomplish. If Surtalogi the Corrupt is any indication, it seems the Sinners could potentially outmatch the gods in raw power.

Apart from determining Surtalogi’s power, Star Odyssey also unveiled the exterior view of Teyvat. It appears that the illusionary sky encompassing the entire planet is not only deceiving what lies within, but also concealing Teyvat from the universe beyond. This raises questions – could Teyvat be akin to Honkai: Star Rail’s Amphoreus, a fortress for an immeasurably potent force that requires isolation? Or is it being hidden to safeguard it from some terrifying cosmic threat lurking in the depths of space? This mystery certainly piques our curiosity.

In simpler terms, could we say that Descenders, who have the ability to influence Teyvat’s course, are similar to Pioneers? It’s interesting how HoYoverse often creates intricate connections and hints across their works, though it’s essential not to overinterpret these links – Descenders likely don’t possess literal power from Akivili or the Trailblaze Path.

To put it another way, given the apparent destruction surrounding Teyvat, it’s not hard to imagine that the artificial sky could serve as some sort of protective barrier.

From what I’ve gathered, it seems my journey mirrors that of the twins, and I’ve crossed paths with individuals such as Alice and Dainsleif – who instantly identified Surtalogi’s combat technique in my actions. Notably, I was also present at the beach where the Traveler first awoke, examining their sand drawing symbolizing the Sustainer of Heavenly Principles. It appears I’ve been keeping an eye on the Traveler since they set foot here.

In the upcoming Genshin Impact 5.7 release next week, we can expect to learn more about the specific relationship of this character and the Traveler.
