Due to the surge in popularity of streaming platforms, it’s hard to find a lack of television content to watch these days. Frankly, there might even be too much good TV on the small screen now! Our schedules are frequently packed with multiple series running concurrently, transporting us to various imaginary worlds. These shows can range from being inspiring and uplifting to heart-wrenchingly emotional at times. However, not every show is deserving of a place in our top picks for the best TV series in 2025.
These are the TV series that really shine, offering captivating plots, relatable characters, and moments so impactful they seem to stick to us permanently.
Andor (Season 2)
Is anyone taken aback to find Andor‘s second and final season on our top TV shows of 2025 list? If they are, it’s understandable. Andor wrapped up its story brilliantly this season, featuring a diverse cast of ordinary characters fighting against the system to ignite rebellion. The show’s exploration of power, liberty, and personal autonomy resonates strongly in our contemporary world, with both positive and negative implications. Shot exceptionally well and boasting outstanding performances from every actor involved, Andor‘s second season delivered a satisfying conclusion and demonstrated that the Star Wars universe is capable of producing top-tier prestige television.
Severance (Season 2)
Three years following the enigmatic ending of its initial season, Severance returned more compelling than ever, delivering with pinpoint accuracy for its second season. The show’s strange landscape and intricate characters were further developed, merging drama with a darkly humorous twist, thus attracting an even larger fanbase. This series offers something for all audiences: suspense, a hint of the macabre, and an abundance of sharp dialogue that encourages active engagement instead of casual viewing.
The Wheel of Time (Season 3)
In a breathtaking expansion, The Wheel of Time transported its world to unprecedented levels, propelling characters from the Two Rivers quartet and their associates on remarkable odysseys of exploration, growth, and unveiling hidden abilities. From the verdant slopes of Tanchico to the perilous dreamscape of Tel’aran’rhiod to the notorious city of Rhuidean, The Wheel of Time brought more of its immersive universe to fruition, intertwining narratives and painting intricate contrasts between light and darkness.
The final episode of the series laid the foundation for intense confrontations in a potential fourth season, but unfortunately, it seems those encounters won’t take place now. Fans of The Wheel of Time, following an impressive third installment, are left disheartened by its cancellation.
Daredevil: Born Again (Season 1)
The comeback of Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, also known as Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, was a dark and deeply emotional journey that brought us back into this ongoing tale. There were some missteps, such as the handling of Muse’s storyline and its hasty resolution, along with an episode that seemed unnecessary. Yet, it was delightful to reacquaint ourselves with familiar characters who appeared as if they had never left our screens. (Truth be told, The Punisher might just be one of the most unintentionally humorous Marvel characters.)
In a fresh and stylish revival, Daredevil: Born Again’s first season skillfully maintains a high bar for meticulously orchestrated fight sequences while masterfully interweaving themes of love and the challenges of heroism, ultimately securing a place on our top TV shows list for 2025.
The Last of Us (Season 2)
This season of The Last of Us took us by surprise with its devastating plot twists, even though we were aware of some elements due to the games. The series effectively brought those iconic game moments to life in a way that still caught us off guard. In the midst of intense suffering, new bonds were formed and the haunting beauty of this ever-changing, decaying world was highlighted even more. The Last of Us has filled the deep post-apocalyptic drama void left by The Walking Dead years ago, and we can’t get enough, despite the pain it brings.
The Pitt (Season 1)
This series seems a bit outside our usual area of expertise, but if you’re yearning for something not typically categorized as “genre” and reminiscent of the golden age of medical dramas like ER, then this show is right up your alley. For quite some time, we’ve been served TV seasons that are akin to fast food, easily consumed and forgotten, but The Pitt offers a lengthy season where episodes intertwine to develop characters, providing a more substantial viewing experience.
These tales are self-contained enough for a leisurely audience to connect with them. They’re filled with emotion, intensity, and they bring Noah Wyle right into the heart of the ER turmoil again. Why wait for further persuasion? Give it a watch!
