In the forthcoming game development simulator by Springloaded, titled “Let’s Build a Dungeon“, there will be a campaign segment that playfully satirizes the industry turmoil related to Palworld’s launch in 2024.
In their recent update, the studio unveiled one of the playable experiences within Let’s Build a Dungeon’s single-player campaign – this experience is called Buddyland. As you may guess, Buddyland is a game centered around crafting and monster catching in a survival setting, with weapons included. It’s worth noting that choices made in this game could have repercussions similar to those encountered in real life.
Springloaded explained that the planned expansion of Buddyland is simply one instance demonstrating the diverse storyline and interactive elements in Let’s Build a Dungeon. This includes engaging debates with outside collaborators, as well as potential encounters with legal complications.
James Barnard, CEO of a Singaporean independent studio, shared his thoughts: ‘Managing an indie studio and creating games can be quite chaotic. We often see news about legal disputes that game developers worldwide are going through, with disagreements escalating in courts and online communities picking sides.’
In the online conversations that go along with this, people frequently ponder about what constitutes a successful game. That’s a topic we’re eager to delve into as we embark on Let’s Build a Dungeon. There isn’t a single solution, but it’s an issue indie developers grapple with regularly. Each choice we make during game development affects the outcome, and we want our players to join us in this journey. Buddyland is one of the methods we’re providing for players to make ethical decisions within the role of a games industry CEO, allowing them to witness firsthand the results.
Springloaded introduced the “Just Build Mode,” where you can play alone or with up to three companions. This mode eliminates the management tasks in ‘Let’s Build a Dungeon,’ giving players free rein to design their ideal MMORPG and expand its player community. In this cooperative setting, players will collectively decide on the future development of the game by voting on a variety of proposals and ideas that are randomly presented.
Let’s Build a Dungeon is set to come to PC and Xbox Series X|S, but has no release date yet.
