How to Beat Caligo, Miasma of Night
- Phase 1
- Phase 2
Among numerous Nightlords, there’s a colossal dragon named Caligo, who often employs mist and frost in his attacks. This monstrous creature can pose a challenge during combat due to its flight capabilities and overall agility throughout the fight.
Thankfully, he isn’t an extremely challenging boss to confront, but he will undoubtedly be one of the prolonged battles you’ll encounter. This frosty dragon is quite mobile, so it’s crucial to strategize beforehand, especially since you might not have much control over your team members’ actions.
Recommended Team Composition

It’s advisable to include both ranged and melee characters in your team composition. A good choice might be Recluse (ranged), Ironeye (melee), and Executor (also capable of dealing high damage). This combination will provide you with attacking options during the moments when you can engage in combat.
- Recluse – Focus on dealing damage to the head when possible, but just keeping consistent damage will be a big requirement. You’ll want to stay out of the way for the most part by trying to stay on one side or the other of Caligo, making it more difficult for them to attack you.
- Ironeye – Focus on shooting the head and reviving teammates when necessary. When it’s in the air, you’ll be the only one able to do any damage, which will help to speed up the fight. Keep up your attacks, but remain vigilant, as some AOE attacks will expand farther than you might imagine.
- Executor – Slice and dice as much as you can while staying near its feet. It only has a couple of AOE attacks that aim directly down, so you should be mostly safe in this position and have ample opportunity to get in some serious damage.
If Caligo takes flight, it’s wise to disperse and keep moving. Since he descends rather swiftly, make an effort to maintain visual contact with him if possible.
Weaknesses and Preparation

In a game such as this, preparation is crucial up to a point. It’s essential to focus on grasping the enemy attacks and minimizing the damage taken as frequently as feasible during your expedition to Caligo. If you come across an item that inflicts Fire damage along the way, it will significantly boost your chances of success.
For Recluse, I recommend locating an item that can be used for Magma Sorcery, as it should assist you in gradually decreasing his health when he’s downed. You may come across such items on staves from time to time, but it might be simpler to find a seal with similar properties or one of its more potent variations instead.
If you come across any items that have a natural resistance to ice-related harm, they could prove useful in handling the second stage of Caligo’s battle as well. With an effective strategy in place, you can often face Caligo around level 10, but having higher levels certainly doesn’t hurt.
Furthermore, should you find yourself engaged in the Mountaintop Shifting Earth event, make sure to address it immediately as it will boost your resilience against Caligo’s potentially lethal Frostbite attacks.
Ensure that you also gain some boosts to your Endurance to enable you to outpace certain assaults. If not, there’s a risk you’ll be overtaken and severely injured.
How to Beat Caligo, Miasma of Night

As a gamer, I’d put it this way: “Taking on Caligo feels like a real challenge! This colossal foe is always on the move, making it tough to land a hit. You’ll venture into an arena shrouded in fog and sand, only to find this monstrous boss taking a snooze. But don’t let its peaceful slumber fool you; when it wakes up, it’s game on!
Initially, you’ll get a brief opportunity to launch an open assault. Target his face for significant damage from the start. As he begins to maneuver, aim to either get closer or create space to dodge his wide-area attacks and prevent getting trapped in the middle where you could be vulnerable.
Phase 1

In phase one, most of the attacks won’t involve the icy coldness usually associated with Caligo. Instead, they’ll likely be cone-shaped or wide-arced, inflicting physical damage without creating icy terrains, except for the breath attacks.
Placing yourself beneath or beside Caligo could help dodge its attacks more easily, however, striking its head will prove challenging. If you’re confident in your abilities, go ahead and position yourself right in front of it and aim for its head repeatedly during the attack.
Attack | Description | Status Effect |
---|---|---|
Freezing Breath | Caligo’s head drops to about ground level, then sprays icy breath in a cone in front of it. | Frostbite |
Freezing Field | Caligo stands on its hind legs and fires a freezing breath attack at the ground. | Frostbite |
Claw Swipes | Caligo swipes with its claws twice | N/A |
Freezing Tail Whip | Caligo coats its tail in frost and swings it in an arc around it, creating a gust of frost. | Frostbite |
Tail Swipe Combo | Caligo swings its tail down onto the ground, then sweeps the area around it. | N/A |
Freezing Mist | Caligo lowers its head and fires a wide range freezing breath attack, arcing from left to right. | Frostbite |
Soaring Claw | Caligo flies in the air for a short period, then crashes down into a target in its landing zone. | N/A |
Ice Crash | Caligo flies into the air, covering the battlefield in fog. The fog will clear, and a massive field of ice will appear above. Cracking sounds will begin, and it will come down from the sky. | Frostbite |
Ice Blast | Caligo flies into the air, covering the battlefield in fog. The air moves toward Caligo while some ice pillars appear. It then releases a massive freezing attack across the entire battlefield. | Frostbite |
Positioning the ice columns as a barrier between you and Caligo is crucial for your survival during Ice Blast. Any other location could lead to near-instantaneous demise.
Phase 2

As a dedicated player, I’ve noticed this stage is where Caligo seems to unleash a barrage of frost-infused attacks almost every turn, even on those I’ve previously engaged. What makes it challenging is that Caligo appears to be more mobile during this phase, darting around the battlefield with surprising frequency. This agility of his means keeping track of him and avoiding his icy blows becomes quite a daunting task while trying to keep up with his rapid movements.
In this stretch, the battle may become slightly repetitive, but hang tight as we navigate through it. It’s going to introduce some fresh assaults during this stage, though it tends to rotate through its entire arsenal quite often.
Attack | Description | Status Effect |
---|---|---|
Ice Blast | Caligo flies into the air, covering the battlefield in fog. When the fog disperses, a freezing mist covers a large portion of the battlefield. | Frostbite |
Chilling Wind | Caligo creates a cold wind and then flaps its wings, forcing the icy wind forward. | Frostbite |
Flying Ice Barrage | Caligo flies in the air, dragging a trail of ice behind it, then crashes into the ground, throwing the icy projectiles forward. | Frostbite |
Ice Barrage | Caligo closes its wings tightly, then opens them quickly, shooting out ice shards. | Frostbite |
Ice Mines | Caligo coats the field in a mist of frost that creates small balls of ice that explode after a short delay. | Frostbite |
Gust of Ice | Caligo coats its tail in ice and then swings it to create an icy shockwave. | Frostbite |
Caligo is predominantly challenging due to its wide Area of Effect (AOE) attacks and continuous movement. However, once you manage to keep it stationary, dealing the necessary damage becomes more straightforward.
After completing the Nightlord, you will move a step nearer to your targets. Upon accomplishment, you will acquire the Night of the Miasma artifact, which could aid in securing frost damage at the onset of gameplay.
