Strongest Emperors in One Piece Ranked from Whitebeard to Buggy

In the popular series “One Piece,” the Four Emperors (Yonkō) stand out as the most prominent and powerful pirate leaders worldwide, boasting significant military might. Unlike traditional allies or adversaries, these four often operate independently. They primarily dwell in the New World’s latter half of the Grand Line, where they exert considerable influence over other pirate groups and autonomous islands. Collectively, they form one of the Three Great Powers. Although there are only four Emperors at a given time, seven have held

7. Buggy the Clown

Despite not being as formidable as some other ex-Roger Pirates, Buggy demonstrates significant combat prowess. He has withstood battles against Whitebeard’s crew and the hazards of the Grand Line, showcasing his strength. His overconfidence and avarice drive him to persist in fighting and seize every chance to boost his reputation.

Initially, he was a formidable adversary during the early stages of the series, but as stronger foes emerged, he significantly diminished as a threat. In the Impel Down Saga, characters like Baroque Works agents and Jinbe noted his striking vulnerability. Nonetheless, he possesses the ability to endure challenges that even the strongest individuals struggle with (though he requires assistance).

Buggy demonstrated incredible durability by enduring a powerful Muggy Bullet that was aimed at him, sustaining only minor wounds (which might have been partly due to his Devil Fruit abilities). On the other hand, a Muggy Bullet caused significant harm to one of the Demon Guards at Impel Down, the Minotaurus.

6. Charlotte Linlin / Big Mom

By demonstrating his power and connections, Linlin has successfully assembled an exceptionally influential team comprising high-profile figures from around the world. This group includes Capone Bege, a notable member of the infamous worst generation, as well as Jinbe, a former Sea King Warlord. Moreover, she holds substantial sway within the Underworld, boasting strong relationships with several emperors and associates from Germa 66.

1) Anyone who marries her offspring instantly joins her team. She’s infamous for having the ability to obliterate entire nations just for a piece of candy, and she can even scare those beneath her in rank, like Pekoms and Tamago, who display obvious fear when confronting her angrily. Interestingly, it seems that most of her subordinates and children share this fear of her mother. Surprisingly, this fear actually strengthens Big Mom because of the unique characteristics of her Devil Fruit abilities.

Big Mom wields significant power in the New World, controlling multiple territories much like Edward Newgate did. Her sway enables her to collect information about individuals who pose a threat or are of interest to her. It is rumored that even demons would join her tea parties if invited. Whether she still holds as much power or maintains control over those territories following her defeat is uncertain.

5. Kaidō

Before the battle at Marineford, Kaido attempted to kill Whitebeard, a daring act that few would even consider. However, he eventually faced Shanks instead. At the peak of his power, Kaido fought Gecko Moria and defeated him completely, annihilating Moria’s entire crew in the process. The Elders also mentioned that Kaido is among the rare individuals who can potentially thwart Blackbeard. Moreover, Trafalgar Law suggested that Kaido could effortlessly eliminate Donquixote Doflamingo, a renowned and extremely powerful pirate.

Before the fight at Marineford, Kaido tried to kill Whitebeard, something very few would do. But he ended up fighting Shanks instead. At his strongest, Kaido defeated Gecko Moria and destroyed his entire crew. The Elders stated that Kaido could possibly stop Blackbeard, while Law said Kaido could easily kill Doflamingo, a powerful pirate known around the world.

It’s possible that Law’s estimate of a 30% chance of overthrowing the Emperor even with the Straw Hats was too low, given that at that time he wasn’t actively challenging Kaidō head-on. This is because the Emperor had effortlessly defeated another member of “The Worst Generation,” Eustass Kid, and dismissed Law and Luffy’s alliance as insignificant despite their accomplishments. To him, the defeat of a Sea Warrior was merely trivial and not significant in the grand scheme of things.

4. Monkey D. Luffy

As the main character of the manga, Luffy frequently showcases his ability to shatter rocks with his bare hands and snap sword blades with his teeth. On numerous occasions, he’s exhibited not just physical power, but an indomitable spirit, unwavering resolve, and remarkable endurance as well. One such instance is when he ascended the 5000-meter Drum Rockies while carrying Nami on his back in her weakened state, with a unconscious Sanji in his mouth, all without his coat in the harsh cold weather.

Without mentioning it, he withstood being infused with a hundred shadows on Thriller Bark, something that even an ordinary man after training could barely handle three or five times over. Remarkably, he survived Emporio Ivankov’s hormone healing process, which is quite an accomplishment in itself. However, what truly sets him apart is that instead of the usual two-day recovery period, he recuperated in just 20 hours, a testament to his indomitable will and unwavering determination.

After the time jump, it’s revealed that Luffy has developed an immunity to poison following his battle against Magellan. Unlike Zoro and Sanji who practice martial arts, Luffy doesn’t adhere to a specific fighting style. Instead, he uses every part of his body freely in fights, such as when he bit Rob Lucci or spat water on Crocodile.

Luffy’s fighting style is spontaneous and full of unexpected twists, as demonstrated when he outsmarted Crocodile by modifying his Gomu Gomu no Pistol technique. In combat situations, particularly against Marines with questionable ethics, he might employ unconventional tactics such as using an enemy as a shield. Despite his reputation for being dim-witted, Luffy’s strategic thinking during fights is quite impressive, although his casual demeanor often belies this ability.

3. Marshall D. Teach / Blackbeard

Before Blackbeard acquired his Devil Fruit powers, he was already a formidable figure. Notably, he was able to wound Shanks, one of the Four Emperors, giving him three scars above his left eye. Additionally, he demonstrated remarkable resilience when withstanding multiple direct attacks from an opponent who seemed to possess Logia-like abilities, similar to Ace.

As a devotee, I can’t help but feel the immense power coursing through my veins after consuming the Gura Gura no Mi, the fruit that embodies the essence of destruction and darkness. This Logia-type Devil Fruit grants me the ability to transform into, and control, the very darkness itself, as well as absorb anything I desire. It’s a formidable power, capable of nullifying the effects of another Devil Fruit, much like Sea Granite. In truth, with this power coursing through my being, I can’t help but feel that I have truly become “The Most Powerful Man on Earth”.

As a passionate movie buff, I can’t help but marvel at the unique abilities some characters possess in this captivating world of One Piece. There’s this guy who can entice any Devil Fruit bearer with a whirlpool, giving him an edge to strike even if his enemy’s fruit is a Logia type. That’s why it makes perfect sense that Shanks, one of the mighty Four Emperors, would make his way to Whitebeard to caution him against Ace seeking out Blackbeard. Post-Impel Down, Blackbeard moved on to Marine Ford, delivering the final blow to Whitebeard who was already gravely injured.

In my humble opinion as a film critic, the enigmatic character in question concealed himself and the fallen Whitebeard beneath a shroud, then reappeared with an earth-shattering ability that made him the unique possessor of two Devil Fruit powers – a feat once deemed impossible. The details surrounding his acquisition of this rare power remain veiled, as does the method by which he managed to swipe it from its rightful owner. As Marco elucidated, these peculiarities are attributed to an extraordinary and anomalous composition of his physical form.

2. Shanks

Shanks’ true capabilities are still a mystery because he hasn’t been observed in a serious confrontation yet. Nevertheless, being one of the Four Emperors of the New World suggests that his raw physical power is incredibly strong, making him one of the world’s top four pirates. Shanks was not intimidated by Whitebeard, who was considered the strongest man alive, and even had the audacity to challenge him. While some other pirate captains quivered at the mere mention of Whitebeard’s name, Shanks stood his ground.

From my perspective as a movie enthusiast, it’s no secret that Shanks was an exceptionally formidable fighter even in his youth. Had he not been so naive, I would have welcomed him aboard my crew when I had the chance, given our status as part of the Four Emperors. In the world of piracy, and particularly in the New World, Shanks is more than just a significant figure; he’s one of the most feared. Just hearing his name evokes immense power, a fact that Buggy himself can attest to. His past claim of having a “brotherly bond” with Shanks was one of many reasons that earned him the reverence of the ex-convicts at Impel Down.

Shanks possesses such authority that he can halt the battle at Marineford with mere words; when he declared no further fighting, nobody dared to oppose him. When Shanks proposed a duel against Blackbeard, the latter chose to withdraw since it wasn’t yet the right time for him and his team to engage in combat with Shanks.

In addition, when Shanks insisted on preserving the honor of Whitebeard and Portgas D. Ace after their demise, Sengoku too chose to conclude the war and accepted the responsibility for it, demonstrating that even as a pirate, Shanks holds significant respect from Sengoku. Moreover, his ability to secure a unique interview with the Council of Five Elders, despite his status, underscores his capacity to stand out among his peers as a rational and cooperative individual.

1. Edward Newgate / Whitebeard

This pirate was the head of the formidable Whitebeard Pirates, a crew renowned for their immense power. He was the lone pirate who could engage in an even match with the legendary Pirate King, Gol D. Roger. His impressive might is further underscored by the fact that Kaidō, nicknamed “the Most Powerful Being,” considers this individual as one of the few who could potentially confront him in battle.

In summary, Edward Newgate, along with Shanks, Kaidō, and Big Mom, was among The Four Emperors – a group of the most formidable pirates ruling over the latter half of the Grand Line. Notably, Newgate stood out as the strongest amongst them. His prestige was so immense that merely declaring Fish-Man Island as his territory deterred slave traders and other pirates, making Edward Newgate more influential than a two-hundred-year-old treaty with the World Government.

Newgate ruled over a colossal pirate armada (akin to Don Krieg), comprising approximately 1,600 pirates, organized into sixteen distinct divisions, each led by formidable division commanders. His dominance was such that the Navy was mobilizing all of its forces, including the top brass, to confront him and his naval force. Yet another proof of his immense power is the summons of the Seven Sea Warlords to join the battle against him.
