Supergirl Could Overtake Marvel’s Vacant Release Date in Exciting Marvel-DC Clash

It’s being speculated that due to Marvel’s current difficulties, James Gunn and DC could take advantage of the situation by bringing forward the release of ‘Supergirl’, potentially filling the gap left by the now vacant ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ release date.

Presently, Supergirl is slated to release on June 26, 2026.

Disney has revealed that they’ve postponed the release dates for the films “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars”. The former will now hit theaters on December 18, 2026 instead of May 1, while the latter is now set to premiere on December 17, 2027, originally scheduled for May 7.

The DC team is considering advancing the release of Supergirl to take the May 1st, 2026 slot previously occupied by Avengers: Doomsday. Warner Bros. recently changed the release date for one of their films, but it seems that Supergirl has a higher priority, so we’ll have to wait and see how things develop.

DCU Builds Hype While Marvel Retreats

Marvel lacks confidence

Currently, Marvel appears to be experiencing a dip in confidence with their titles, as Marvel Studios will not be present at Comic-Con for the promotion of upcoming projects like Fantastic Four or any of their Disney+ shows such as Ironheart and Wonder Man. Conversely, James Gunn’s DC Universe is seeing growth.

The sky’s the limit for Gunn’s Superman

A fresh industry report hints that Superman might earn a staggering billion dollars in total box office sales, potentially debuting with an impressive $175 million on its opening weekend. If this prediction comes true, the opening weekend figure would approach and even surpass the earnings of many recent Marvel Cinematic Universe films.

Gunn has hinted at his upcoming ‘Superman’ movie due out in July, suggesting it may include a post-credit scene. There’s buzz that this scene might star Milly Alcock as ‘Supergirl’, a role she’s previously been linked to. Additionally, the ‘Supergirl’ film is expected to introduce Jason Momoa as Lobo, adding an exciting element for fans.

Avengers disassembled

Concerning the current situation with the Avengers, there are reports that they’ve been shooting without a finalized script. It’s noteworthy that this, along with the delay in release date, is pushing back the premieres of Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, which in turn might postpone Kevin Feige’s planned Marvel Cinematic Universe releases of Thunderbolts and Captain America: Brave New World. This summer’s Fantastic Four could also face a similar delay.

DC vs Marvel wars are back on.
