Alien: Earth Trailer Confirms Its Place in the Alien Timeline

The latest teaser for the FX and Hulu production titled “Alien: Earth” unveils fresh insights that surpass previous glimpses. It introduces new alien species apart from the Xenomorph, offers a detailed view of Earth during this particular time frame, and even provides an exact date within the Alien timeline. The title card in the trailer reads “Neverland Research Island, Earth, 2120”, which is two years prior to the setting of the original Ridley Scott film, “Alien“, which takes place in 2122. The design of the ship interiors shown in the “Alien: Earth” trailer bears a strong resemblance to those seen on the “Nostromo” from “Alien“. However, it’s unlikely that it’s the same ship, more likely just a similar class of towing vessel.

The year 2120 for “Alien: Earth” sets it well beyond the timeline of both “Prometheus” and “Alien: Covenant”. While “Prometheus” unfolds in the year 2093, and “Alien: Covenant” occurs around a decade later in 2104, the creator of the upcoming series, Noah Hawley, has suggested that it won’t strictly follow the origins of the Xenomorph as depicted in those films. In other words, David (played by Michael Fassbender) may not be the father of the Xenomorph in this new storyline.

It’s challenging to accept that Ridley Scott, known for his work, might associate himself with something that contradicts his own creations. However, due to upcoming projects like Alien: Earth, we may need to consider these films as part of a parallel universe or continuity, similar to the Alien vs. Predator series. If Alien is set two years after the events in question, could it mean that the first encounter with the Xenomorph happened on Earth? This would explain Weyland/Yutani’s special orders in the original film. This theory aligns well within the franchise’s context. The answers to how everything fits together will be revealed when Alien: Earth premieres on FX and Hulu in August.
